If you have it's only a whisker.
My eyes shot straight up the river and into the clouds.
If anything that whispy bit of cloud spoils it. Would have been nice full bodied and fluffy like the rest.
Assuming that you have a decent-sized original of this, I've come up with what I consider to be an appropriate crop for your image. The main reasoning behind my thinking is that it's the middle section of the shot which has all the interest (and there's plenty of detail and colour there too), so I've taken the liberty of cropping it to landscape format in a bid to illustrate my point. Hope you don't mind
Like it or not, I'd be interested to hear your views
I looked at your picture. The sky is too blue and needs to be toned down or slightly de-saturated. The foreground needs a bit of dodging to bring up the interest. Finally, your crop is too low and should be just below the wispy cloud on the left hand side.
There's no central grabber of interest for me (the river is too far away), but the composition works for me. To my eye, the foreground balances the sky nicely as it is.
Can't remember when I last posted a pure landscape shot.
Do you feel that I have included too much foreground?
Thoughts, pure or impure, invited.
Hi Tom
An interesting landscape, unusually in a portrait mode. Nice sky and composition.
IMO you could take a little (10 - 12 mm?) off the foreground - it would stand it - but not too much or it would become square and I think it suits portrait.
(It's a bit early in the morning fore impure thoughts)

That is a very interesting crop Tim - typical of your type of photography where you go in close and chop the tops of heads off AND make them look good!
Interesting yes, but I think I like the mountain on the left as it was, although it looks better with less foreground and the focus on the stream.
You are very brave and daring with your photography and that is what makes yours stand out from the rest of us amateurs. and makes you a professional of course.

Hi Tom
As I wrote in some other post it is nice not to have stereotypes in photography. So scenic views cannot be always in landscape format, but it is nice according to the scenery to be in portrait too.
I like the specific scenery in landscape mode, especially when a long river is involved.
My only comment would be that you could walk (if it was possible of course) a little further and take more of the river and less of the foreground ground.
Thanks so much everyone and an interesting and varied set of opinions.
I also like the more traditional landscape format produced by Tim (thanks Tim) but I feel the crop is too tight and besides losing part of the sky (which is ok) we have lose some of the sides of the canyon which I feel should be kept if only to preserve the idea of depth. I also felt that having the large amount of sky added a scale to the canyon itself, if that makes sense.
I do feel my self that it was not the best time if day but I could not control that; it was part of a three day hike.
I also have a landscape version and I will root it out and post.
I appreciate your replies.
Hi Tom i've answered without looking at any other answers in case they influenced my thoughts .
I'd crop to the bottom of the grass slope and try to centralise the river by cropping some of the right hand side .
I'd have liked to have seen some of those clouds smack over the top of the valley .
If this had'nt been put in for critique i would'nt have raised any of these points , the picture stands by it'self but i feel it would be improved by a slight crop .

B..
Thanks Bob; I see what you mean.
As you will have read by now I did consider cropping from the bottom. As promised here is a quick landscape format of the area but with changing conditions(not necessarily for critique)
This one feels tighter and more constricting than the first one (maybe it's the small size), but it has more going on in it for me. I especially like the play of light on the left mountainside, and those heavenly clouds. I expect to see a large hand descend from them and give you a thumbs up for a job well done.
Edit: Just had a look at it in your gallery and there isn't a larger version.
