  • Easter Horse Show...

My favourite action shot from the day because of the water splash... Heavily photoshopped to bring down the background (luminance, saturation, blur, cloning...) and modelling on the horse and rider.

Lovely job Andy, all your effort seems to have done the job, and you have captured the horse and rider brilliantly.

Ian and Stephen have summed things up nicely. Great shot with beautiful processing.

It's like the horse and rider are about to leap out of the screen ... for real!

Congratulations Andy on a fine shot. My first reactions were similar to Pol's that it looks as though the horse and rider are coming straight out of the picture - almost in 3D. Well captured and post treated.

Having looked more at the photo, just a few more comments Andy. I'm sensing the blurring you have given it is a little overdone in places and is not quite what should have been achieved in camera. In an ideal world you should perhaps have got further back and used a much longer focal length, 200mm at least. Your aperture of f2.8 should then have thrown the background further oof. Finally, I just feel the desat on the background is a little too 'grey'. Having said all this its still a great shot of the rider and horse.

I could have opened it up a stop (to f2), but I would have lost the horse or rider. There is a little more to be done on this one...

Better version, background darkened and saturated, blur evened out, detail around legs fixed (excessive bright aura) and extra water drops added over mud!

I certainly like the improved image much more than the first.

That's really a great action shot Andy! Not only the splash but the horse's tail, emphasizing movement! The photo has a wonderful energy!
