For some reason I rarely get much feedback in my photos...! Don't be shy, just be polite!
I rather liked the pattern that this wooden fence formed. It's taken with a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5, which has a digital compass and GPS built in and you can see the geo-tags in the exif data in the gallery
I find anything like this very interesting as I enjoy "Pattern Pictures" and often look at them with a view to how I would compose the image given the same subject.
Details also fascinate me, and I'm intrigued by the sub-structure that is showing through the gaps in the boards.
The level of detail is impressive, with the grain, structure and even a hint of texture being revealed by the lighting.
The exposure and colour saturation is very good. At first I thought it was slightly green (reminiscent of AGFACHROME) but on second thoughts I think it is remnants of wood preserver.
For me all the interesting elements of the subject are in the Left Hand panel of planks with the shadow providing a soft contrast of light and dark with a subtle hint of the origin of the wood (or is that a bit too deep a perspective ) So I'd simply crop all the RHS at the vertical line. This removes the compositional "V" that takes the eye out of the bottom of the frame, which is contrary to our natural way of reading an image and the upward flow our eyes naturally want to follow. I'd certianly try a horizontal flip on such a cropped image, just to see if that "feels" better.
The thing that keeps returning to mind when looking at this image is the wonderfully subtle colours and the way that you have preserved them, gives this a very natural and tranquil look; the kind of place that would be nice to sit and eat lunch, away from the office.
TBH I can't believe I'm spending time looking at Planks!! and trying to think of something constructive to say Now I'm thinking Grahams done a better job, so I won't bother . I am attracted by the coloured beads inbetween the planks, and all I can think is, these must be the geo tags I must differ from Graham though..............I'd sooner eat my lunch somewhere with a view. Suppose its ok for testing camera lenses though

You wouldn't enjoy eating your lunch there as I was standing in the pavement by a fairly busy and noisy road.
I think I concur with most of you that the geometric pattern is nicely moderated by the soft shadow of the tree. I did tweak the vibrance in Lightroom to bring out the nice colours in the wood. It's the whole frame, incidentally.

It's good exercise for the eyes.
I sometimes spend quite a while sitting studying the brickwork on corner of the garage wall. It's the shape and light that draws me to it as there's a narrow alleyway on one side and the other gets full sunlight at certain times of the day. I have a photo archived somewhere. I called it 'Out of the Darkness into the Light'.
I never got to have it printed, nor did I ever upload it because it was the one and only full file I lost when my old PC suddenly died so I was left with just a compressed web version and the lighting hasn't ever repeated itself as yet to enable me to do a repeat version. I'd also spent ages processing and toning it.
I also like pattern pictures, but I am not keen on the shadow of the tree.
I would need to have the vertical line centred and make it into a rectangle. I would prefer a square, but the shadow would encroach.
I just love the colours though, so subtle. The textures are great too.

In fact you could make it into a square starting from the top, but only taking it down as far as it would go so as not to pick up the shadow and then put a slim frame round it.
