    Hi Guys,

I am Completely Unsure about this Shot.

I realize that everything is probably wrong with it, still, there is something that keeps me going back to this image. This is as it was shot, only Resized, and my name added.

    Please give me critique

I think that because you have revisited it so often, something inside you values this image. And for this reason I feel others will also find the image alluring. At the same time you couldn't say that it will have universal appeal, but for what it's worth, I do like it. It has a sense of motion and the bird in the frame is the finishing touch.

      Hi Lou,

I like this and it makes me stop and stare, the bird in motion makes the image It’s amazing how an image can communicate with clarity even in a blurred state. Way cool! That's what I love about photography. It's about YOU when this happens because real art is borne from within and if other people like it, bonus x

I see it as an ok abstract image, had the bird been crisp and sharp then I would have thought there was some skill and expertise in taking the shot, as it stands my son who is six could have quite easily taken this shot, if the effect was intentional then your panning technique and shutter speed need some work!

I think we need to remember that photography is an artform and comes in many forms. This image is definitely not technically great in any way but lou likes it and that's what really matters when we've all done picking the bones over.

            Hello Lou
When I first saw your picture it reminded me of a pic I took almost a year ago

(I hope you dont mind me putting this in your thread) I had been taking slow shutter speed pics of the incoming tide I was just about to finish when I heard this noise on the other side of the bay, I took a shot of the jetski surfer before I realised the settings were not reset. I looked at it at home and like you with your picture couldnt make up my mind whether I liked it or not. I am not really into abstract but I couldnt bring myself to delete it. I think Gina is right when she said photography is an artform and as long as you like it, keep it.

Bones I love bones I did not want to rattle your cage Gina but this was posted in the critique section, yes it may be wonderful for you flower power arty farty types to look at, but its a blurred picture that most normal person would delete.

Its no good for someone posting a shot in the critique section and getting smoke blown up their rear for an image that is poor, they are not going to learn anything.

She was unsure about the shot and her last words were 'please give me critique'

Calm down Ash - it's ok to have an opinion. Please don't get stressed over an out of focus image. As for a flower power arty farty type - I'm a child from the 60's man!!

Actually Ash, I think Lourens is a guy! Like Lourens Van Der Post! Have you heard of him? Its possibly Laurence in the UK! Sleep depravation bejiggered! Lets keep things pleasant on here! It really puts people off sometimes to have caustic comments! There's nicer ways to make your opinion known!

Well interesting one this. First off if you changed the camera settings to get this image and you had the image in your minds eye and you knew what you where doing to get the image then its not a bad attempt. But if you just had the settings set by the camera, or you had forgot to change a setting and its just how it was shot with no thought by you the get this image the way it looks, then its bad. Its not the final image that counts it's the intent on seeing an image and getting it the way you wanted it from the start. Lucky photos don't count as art.

                            Any interesting point of view

I think there is a lot of insincere art out there!

There are absolutely no rules in photography, lots of great photographs are blur and not sharp. I like the sense of movement and liveliness in this shot, I remember one of my customer told me once (while I was a B&W printer in London) that nine out of the ten photographs on the wall were either soft or blur, that said a lot about how I unconsciously picked these photographs, it was the emotional content that matters for me.
