Adding a Vignette Tutorial

Hi All,
Well as my previous tutorial on selective desaturation seemed to be fairly popular, I thought I would do another one.

This one is how to add a very simple vignette. As with most things in Photoshop, this is not the only way, but possibly one of the easiest, and it can obviously used for other purposes, and tweaked to taste

I hope you like, and comments very welcome, I would especially be interested in other tutorials you would like to see.

Nice one Ben, I'm a big user of the vignette idea to slightly darken corners and make the eye focus more on the subject in the centre of a photo. I've developed my own variation on yours and darken by simply using the brightness tool. I find it gives a little more control and you can adjust in real time to get the result you want.

I was hoping you would reply with your method, as I know we have had this discussion before on DPNow.

As with everything in Photoshop, there really are a million and one ways of doing the same thing.

I do know some people also use the 'burn' tool to acheive similar results.

Hopefully your reply will encourage others to share their knowledge with some more hints and tips to acheive this kind of effect

Thanks Ben - that was very interesting.

Now just need to see if it'll work in Elements (sure it will, just too knackered to try it tonight)

I must admit I'd been reduced to trying Picnik, as I hadn't found it in Elements (so far)!

Hi,
Here's another way to add a vignette to a photo. In CS3, you can use the Filter/Distort/Lens Correction tool. PS Elements 6.0 provides the same capability via Filter/Correct Camera Distortion.
