  • Grainy Hibiscus

I took a few photos of hibiscus flowers but they are all grainy. The day was bright and sunny but I was in the shadow of a building.

Can anyone tell me why the pic is so grainy. I took the pic with my Fuji S9500 in RAW. Exif in my gallery, under miscellaneous.

All I have done is crop.

I don't really understand how to use the RAW editing part of CS2. Could I have done anything in there to improve the pic?

Had a look at the Exif data for the picture and it appears you have used ISO 800. In my experience such a high ISO in a small sensor camera results in very grainy/noisy pictures and is to be avoided. It maybe that using some noise reduction software will improve it but perhaps at the expense of texture.

ACR does have some noise reduction built into it, so you could also try that with the Raw file

That's a shame because it looks like a nicely positioned shot.
Certainly down to the high ISO. A quick run with noise reduction

Here are two more pics. I have shown almost all the photo so that you may be able to say whether it could be the lighting.

These two were taken at ISO 200.

I hadn't realised that the first one was ISO 800 . I must have changed the setting because I thought it was a bit dark.

These are still grainy. The only adjustment is levels.

I ran the image through Noise Ninja, with only about 50% noise improvement. Detail loss was minimal, but still plenty of noise, don't use ISO 800 anymore!.
