  • DVD's

Whilst I was away on holiday I took quite a number of photos using my new 2 gigabyte memory card & my 1 GB! Once full, I took them to a camera shop & the person there said it was best to put them on DVD as too big for CD's! So I went ahead & had 3 DVD's burnt & only 2 CD's done for smaller card! I got home last night and tried to look at my pics & to my horror & dismay, my computer will not open the DVD's or can not read them! The CD's are fine! Can anyone tell me what to do? Should I get my kids laptop, which can read film on DVD & somehow transfer from one to another? I'm absolutely nonplussed at what to do

First check that the DVDs can be read on your kids laptop before deciding on a course of action.

        Hi Jocelyn,
Dennis is right, but if you want to for not to much more, you can purchase an external DVD reader_ Reader writer which just plugs into your USB port so no physical installation required, a bonus is they normally come with some software to work with/play DVDs, they work best if you have USB2 ports as opposed to older USB1. they work extremely well in my experience, as do external hard drives which I use a lot of. Good Luck.

As above plus you could pop them into your DVD player and look at them on your TV.

Another method came to me, it involves downloading to the laptop H/D again, but this time copy the images to a USB flash memory or even back to your camera memory card, and then download to your PC.

                Re: DVD's

Thank you all for the advice. I decided to go buy an external DVD writer/reader with a USB connection. It does worry me though when at the beginning or opening of the DVD's it says unsupported data or something to that effect! I decided this method a lot less time consuming & have been able to download a couple of pics which I will in due course put in my gallery! I'm quite disappointed in that a really large number of my pics are blurred & it seems on reading the manual that what I thought was the button to press for increasing to 12X magnification was in fact the burst mode button! Unfortunately, it seems that whatever settings were used when pressing that button, does not alter when the camera is switched off!! Drat!Drat...drat! I think I got clearer pics from my Nikon...oh well...we learn from our mistakes hopefully! I seem to have an awful lot to learn with the Panasonic! Nothing seems cheap in Oz it seems! The External DVD player was $169 & it wasn't the expensive one either! Its an LG! Just a 1 Gig memory card is $50! Oh & we do have wireless network system for kids to play on laptops in their bedrooms or lounge! So I gues I could've gone down that road, but don't have time handy working shiftwork roster! Thanx once again!

And we talk about rip off Britain sounds as if there are rip off other places as well.

Be interesting to know how much CS3 is a OZ.
