  • Upscaling Images

    Hi All,

A freind of mine at work is looking for assistance, and I wonder if anyone here can help.

He is trying to 'upscale' an image.

Basically, he is trying to upload some images to some stock accounts (he specializes in aviation images) and so wanted to look at the possibility of selling them as stock.

However, everywhere he looks they are looking for pictures of a minumum of about 20MB.

What would be the best method of upscaling, and is it possible to do this using Photoshop Elements?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

Ben - Try Googling for 'Photo Image Upsizing', you will get a lot of leads. This one :-

leads to a forum on which there are several suggestions, including GenuineFractals and QImage.

        Re: Upscaling Images

Just had a look at that but wasn't all that impressed with the quality of the resized image. For the test I used an image of a rose centre at 300dpi and 400 pixels wide. I resized to 4000 pixels and hardly any detail was visible.

I get a much better result by first changing the image to a tiff file and resizing in the normal way with Paint Shop pro X1
I rather suspect that to achieve a size increase up to 28MB is going to take some expense interpollation software.

Pops - You do not say 'what' you had a look at. ? Therefore no one knows what package/program you tried.

Pops - Sorry to appear pedantic, but you still do not state what upsizing software you used.

Ben I suspect 20mb refers to the uncompressed file size or a Tiff version, and not the physical size of a jpeg file. This being so then its something that is easily achievable and infact many cameras output files that are much bigger.

In my limited experience of these things many stock libraries ask for 40mb files, and then you would need to upsize. I'd just use the bicubic setting in Photoshop in the Image size dialogue. Alternatively if using a Raw file upsize directly from the raw converter software to anything you want. Works for me anyway

I followed the link that you gave and downloaded the programme 'Oibaf Dema Spline'
The screen reads 'Dema Image Resizer'

For info Autumn, I uninstalled it after 10 minutes
