  • Help & Advice

    Hi everyone,

I've just started a digital photography course which is only for 4 days on a friday, anyway we went to Wythenshawe hall where we took some pictures which will hopfully be displayed in the Manchester Gallery to celebrate the Great Manchester Art Exhibition which was about 1880. Anyway I have this one that I need some help and advise on how I can improve it. I have just bought a copy of Photoshop 7 off a friend who has just upgraded to CS2 I also have Paintshop Pro 9.

    Thank you in advance
    Ian

    Re: Help & Advice

    Hi Ian,
I think it is a nice image, with bags of potential.

I personally think the old window, and statue lends itself to mono.

Given more time, I would have probably given this a more dramatic sky, as the conversion, and tweaking have blown it out.

I also used the 'spot healing' brush, (which I believe comes with PS7, if it doesnt, the 'clone tool' ould do the trick) to lose some of those distacting rain drops.

I also straightened the horizon, as it was slightly out, but evident because of the window.

I converted to mono using the 'channel mixer'

I also added a slight vignette effect to draw the eye toward the statue. (use the circular select tool, select an area in the middle, select inverse, feather by 250pixels on the full res image, then fill 45% black/darken)

Also, sharpened the area within just the window.

    Hope you like the idea!

At the bottom of the smilies there's a section called "MyPics" Click on 'open. and a window will open showing the pictures in your gallery. Select 'clickable thumbnail to gallery' and that'll insert the tn for you.
