  • Any chance of reworking this?

Went on a visit to a Falconry Centre the other night.

The weather was absolutely fowl !!

After flying a peregrine falcon (didn't manage to get a shot of that in flight), he released a barn owl. Tried to capture him, but the light by this time was so bad that this was the result:

The camera was on 'auto'. I've tried fiddling, but can't get anything out of it - is it a keeper or dumped?

I did take one slightly earlier in the evening. Since it rained the whole time we were there, none of the pictures (apart from a couple inside) came out very well, but I'd also like advice on this one. The contrast has been adjusted, and I've cropped the left to remove someone leaning in. He's just about to release the peregrine - had several goes, but [U]couldn't[U] get him in flight!

    Hi Caz,

I actually like the barn owl picture as it is. It has a sort of ghostly effect that seems to fit with the subject. I'm not sure that you'd be able to get much more out of it in terms of a detailed picture of a barn owl.

The second picture is rather static. I think the amount of background does not help this. Cropping may help, I've attached one possible suggestion.

    Vernon.

P.S. My wife just came in, saw your barn owl picture and declared it beautiful .

Hi Caz and Vernon - I've cropped more hare. Is it too much?

Thanks for your comments, Gina and Vernon.

Agree with both of you about the peregrine pic, so have had a crop:

I liked the misty quality of the picture, so haven't lightened it any further - besides which, it was fair hammering down.... partner took a picture of me with a very large owl on my arm and I look like a half drowned rat!

And Vernon - thank you and your wife for your compliments on the owl.

          Caz,

          Here is my attempt.
Didn't crop anything since I like it as is in terms of framing.
It gives a better feeling of the landscape view and most important of the height the guy is standing.
The height that can be related to the bird's freedom too.

Thanks George, I like it - I'd only used Picassa on it as a quick fix.

I should have posted the first one I took... there were caravans just in front of his right shoulder! I thought about cloning, but preferred the perspective I'd got in this one.

I presume you used Photoshop? I can't get my head round these 'layers'. Must put aside a day and have a play sometime....

By the way, I've taken some more macro shots - just got how to work out to put my camera phone photos next to my camera ones!

I wouldn't think of cloning out the caravans!
How often someone gets a chance to see them.
I use Paint Shop Pro Caz. I used it since version 2 or earlier (don't even remember anymore the version I started out with).
I'm not familiar with Photoshop and I'm not familiar with layers and cloing in and out things either in any of these software. I'm only very well familiar with basic post processing, only.
I don't want to learn them either as I'm afraid that sometimes might fall in the trap of creating artificial photos.
Anyway, my point of view to the related matter.

I'm glad you got your way around of shooting macro with the camera.
Should we wait for some camera macro photo postings?
