I have seen this camera,
I quite like the look of this, but do not realy know much about dslr's
would you think it would be a good one for as a first one in dslr.

that seems to be a bad link, but check out Ians reviews by clicking on 'cameras' on the top left. If he hasnt reviewed it, pop along to www.dpreview.com they have some pretty in depth reviews which are pretty good!

The E400 is very nice and that seems a good price.
I don't think you will be disappointed in any of the current dSLRs.

Well done - a nice outfit

The E-400 has both a mini xD card slot and a Compact Flash slot. xD cards are slower and more expensive, so I would use CF, primarily. However, a keep a smaller spare xD in the camera as a stop-gap in case I find myself running short of CF space and with no spare cards in the bag.

A new camera can be the start of a new era in photography, lets hope your enthusiam, skills and not least your photographs take on a new dimension. You will no doubt need to work at it, but I'm certain you will enjoy the journey

I'm sure there will be plenty of offers of help from the DPNow forum members

First tips:

Set the image quality to SHQ mode - this is the best quality without using RAW mode (ORF files, or Olympus Raw File format).

I'd just try taking any old picture, get used to the autofocus and the shutter release button sensitivity - even use auto mode to start with.

I'd also set the AF point selection to the centre point only as using the default auto select setting can be confusing.

Enjoy it and don't get despondent if it takes a while to get used to it, as it always does with any new kit. Don't feel shy about asking for any advice and help - there are some very helpful, experienced and dedicated Oly users in here so yer off to a good start.
