  • Help on pricing!

Ok folks. You've been great to me so far. I've just had an inquery on how much for a print. Up until recently I'd been trying to get $20 for an 8 x 10 then I got a WHOA THAT'S WAY TO LOW! from someone. Now I don't know what to do! I have no idea how to price work without under pricing myself. I've always had a habit of selling myself short on everything I do.

    Any suggestions?

It seems to me that unless you are seriously trying to make money from selling your images, then the best thing is to charge what you feel comfortable with.
It sounds though that it may be a little cheap if you are don't want to undervalue your work. If you are selling pictures as pieces of fineart and you are having the print professionally produced, you need to be charging an amount that makes it worthwhile doing and gives you a good return whilst putting a respectable value on your work. As for how much, check out what other photographers are charging that provide a similar product.

A good idea is to join a stock library (in the UK a good example is Alamy) that operates an online pricing wizard for purchasers. The wizard has a series of questions that helps the system to calculate a quote for you.

Joining a stock library is also a good way to focus your photography on earning some money

You just upsize the shot in the raw converter, its just over 17mp or about 5020px wide. With your camera its a piece of cake
