I know Pol recently had an *istD body repaired and had a very good experience.

I'd definitely get both the lens and body checked over.

may take longer than the average. It took a lot less in fact! The repair is also guaranteed for 6 months so they urge you to test the camera/repair and raise any concerns within 10 days.

Thanks for all that info Pol and for going to the bother of looking up the prices.. I will give serious thought to the lens when I get the estimate. I paid 100 quid inclusive to Park Cameras for it a couple of years or less ago. I will ring Pentax tomorrow. I was also given a repairers name on the Pentax Users forum so I will also check that out too..
Pentax seemed to perform well with your husbands problem so that's encouraging. Hope you and your family had a nice Christmas.

I've just been looking through the Pentax user site too and came across what looks like another good Pentax repair centre. It seems to operate along similar lines to the one in Slough so maybe you could phone both and compare what they say. I called upstairs and asked Gert about it, he thought they looked very good too. He hasn't had any personal experience of them but agreed they could be worth phoning and making enquiries there as well as Slough. Here's the link
