Re: Which camera should I buy?

Its always been my opinion that you should stretch yourself to the limit when buying such equipment as a camera. You grow into them and if you have bought basic gear you are liable to find them wanting in time.

Audrey aka Autumn uses a Fuji HS10 and is very pleased with it. there is a review HERE

Have you considered second hand or to use modern description pre-used.
With all the new models continually appearing there are some good DSLR cameras on eBay Canon, Nikon, Sony to mention but a few, that could fall within your budget, and there should be plenty of growing room for you.
There are some very good older models about that will give you wonderful results.
There are simply no poor cameras about the competition is too hot, yes it can be argued one model is better than another but its very marginal. In terms of quality its difficult to go wrong.

Remember at the end of the day a good photograph comes from the photographer not the camera.
The camera is the tool that gives correct exposure, sharp image and so forth, a good picture has more than that, you the photographer.

Tried a Nikon P100 as well, it was excellent for the money

Invest in a memory card and try them out in the shop to see what one you like most that feels right for you.

Re: Which camera should I buy?

Ill second Patricks comments, an excellent to mint condition dslr or even a new older model is the way to go if you want quality pictures and don't nessesarily need to fit the camera in your pocket!
I could find loads on ebay for less than 250
When buying off ebay always check feedback and make sure they have plenty of it! Actually go in and read some randomly. And try to pay with paypal as you are protected as a buyer.

            3 batteries (!).

OK, some might consider the 350D a bit long in the tooth but it was / is (IMHO) a bit of a classic.

My 350D did me proud for 2 years before I moved on to a 40D. I passed the 350 onto my brother who is still tuning out great shots with it - as is my sister with her 350D and yet another brother with his 400D. (and I still have another brother and sister to convert!)

So, as the others have said, I'd certainly consider second user gear (and Nikon is nearly as good as Canon ).

Re: Which camera should I buy?

With some of the older DSLR's there is no live view and whilst I know a lot of you experienced photographers don't use it very often, I find it nice to have and particularly with the HS10, ground and overhead shots are very easy to achieve with the camera having the tilting viewfinder.

There are also good manual controls and when focusing in manual mode the point of focus is enlarged. I'm very happy with mine.

Anyway, good luck with your choice mrsgrimble.

Well, is it? The Canon or the Nikon?

                    Very funny Kenny.
