  • Toning skin colour.

Here's Tyler (my Grandson), who most of you will know by now. He had rather a high colour today from playing outside with me on such a windy day. If you can ignore the snot oozing from his nostrils, can you advise on any process that can tone the redness down. I'm sure there's 'happy dirt' on his cheeks as well but how can this image be improved?

His expression is the spitting image of his Mummy - Faye.

    Thanks for any advice.

If I'm honest the skin tones don't look at all bad on my screen. However a suggestion might be to try a subtle desaturation. I tried -15 in Photoshop and it worked pretty well for me. If you only want the skin affected then do a quick selection, feather it and then try the desat. Personally, I think the worst thing you could do is simply to reduce the red as there will be a knock on effect with other colours

BTW Gina, full marks on sharpness for this shot. Did you use the new 50mm?

Thanks Stephen, yes the 50mm is now my best friend. It took a bit of getting used to but for portraits it really is the sharpest tool in the box! Thanks for the advice, I'll have a little tinker with it but to be honest, I think it's a super shot of Tyler and he always has rosy cheeks anyway.

        Many thanks.
