Personaly i like the colour , but i'm open to arguement

      Hi Bob,

Exactly as you said. I think the colored pole is too small and it doesn't really make a difference. It would look better I think in full B&W or it might look nice if you have left colored some other bigger area in the photo.

        Thanks George.
Nothing much else in the photo to selective colour , the main reason i left the pole was because you don't see many of these in England anymore , and the red(blood) and white (bandage) pole was a very old sign for barbers .
It dates from the medievil times when barbers were also teeth pullers and general doctors . (think mine still is)

          Hi Bob,

The barber shops here used to have something similar, but they dissapear long time ago. Though original barber shops still exist here everywhere and most important charge much less than the fashionable coiffure shops.

            Hey Bob,

I agree generally with the earlier comments. It might work with a strong crop that would give more space to the pole. It just gets lost somehow in the current framing. Thanks for allowing us to see it.

That's a nice picture Bob. Where was it taken? I like the B&W image as it enhances the look of the old buildings and the cobbled street. As already said the pole is not prominent enough for this treatment. Was a nice idea but not in you mind when you took it. If it had of been then I'm sure you would of taken a different angle on it.

I think both Joe and Ron have hit the nail on the head , i was'nt taken with mono in mind , if it was i proberbly would have walked down the alley and shot nearer the pole to frame the alley a bit .
I think this just go to show that unless we think B& W when shooting then a mono conversion does'nt always work .
Got to think light and contrast when shooting B&W and ignore whatever colour is in the frame , not every subject or situation is fit to convert .
I know a few of us started out in B&W because colour film was'nt available , but when i look back at some of the snaps i took in the 60's i wish they had been in colour , so it's horses for courses for me .
Ron this was taken in the litle mid Kent market town of Cranbrook , i was shooting a windmill and just saw this as i walked past , so it's nothing more than a snap .

There are some nice little scenes in Kent. A place I have not explored for years. First thoughts were Devon then I remembered your location. Well worth stopping for that shot. Sometimes snaps, as you call it, turn out just fine.

                    Hi Bigbob,
A lovely image of a lovely area of England, it's a shame that most of old Kent of my boyhood days has dissapeared, never mind images like this can still be found. I like this image in my opinion it is timeless, don't like the color'd pole as it is lost within the image and is just an iritant when you do spot it, however a great conversion, which suits the image well, could try a toned version to age it even more?
