Peter, I think the idea was nice. Boat on the beach when the tide is out, at a jaunty angle, rope leading the eye in etc. Somehow it doesn't quite work for me though. It has to be said the conditions don't seem to have been on your side, there is no good light on the boat and the sky is naff. So whats the answer? Well I think that under such circumstances you have to consider changing the type of photo you are taking in order to inject something else. Perhaps closeups, more dynamic camera positions and angles and so on. I know its easy for me to say, but its gotta be worth a go

      Thanks for that Stephen

Thats just the sort of thing I wanted to hear. I must get out more with the camera so I will try things like close ups next time. Oh and the sky really was that naff

Sorry the last reply was so short and sweet but I was on my way out to work. Guess what we had a great sky all day nice and light, big white clouds the works: mad: . When you say close ups did you mean macro or just to get in closer to the boat?. Not to sure about dynamic camera position and angles what do you mean. Guess I just need loads of help. The thing I am trying to do is just push myself away from my normal type of photos. I then hope to get out more with the camera.

I think essentially you need to get closer to the boat, always supposing there is something of interest that is. I'm not a great fan of macros in the sense of getting very close, so thats out for me I took a series of picture of some boat wrecks last year, you may remember seeing some of them. If you look at this gallery on my personal site, there are some examples of using angles, closeups etc. with the boats. Also exaggerating the colour and contrast which make the images look more dramatic

            OK thanks again Stephen.

Yes I do remember those photos and did like them the first time round. I will take on board what you have said and will try again this weekend if the weather is with me.

OK the weather was better this weekend so I had another go. I know the lead in line is not so good on this one but I do like it. So let me know what you think?.

The light is much better and you have captured the highlights on the boat which help lift it from the rather flat version you took before

I liked the compositionof the first better and the lighting of the second - now all Peter needs to do is find a way of combining the two!

Thanks Stephen I was a lot happier with the light this time. I just knew when I looked at it back home that it was just missing the lead in line.

Well that will be my next mission Ian.

Hi Peter, shame these in black and white, there are some great colours out there along the coast, I am not sure where this is taken (hard to tell from the angle) I would like to see the colour version. You could also try taking some boats at sunrise or sunset (depending on which bay your at!) this helps give some great effects.

                        Hi Mo

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to your post. I have post 3 more photos in my gallery if you want to have a look at them. These were taken at Rousse. Also sunsets and the odd sunrise are on my list to do but to me it seems the wrong time of year for the really good sunrise and sunsets photos

I would disagree about sunrises and sunsets, this time of year you dont have to get up so early.. and you dont have to stay up too late, the only thing is in autumn / winter there is more chance of a dull day. Having said that summer wasn`t much better either

The way I see it is you have a better chance of catching a better sunset/sunrise in the summer. You know what its like when time is tight and you just have to take the time out with your camera when you can.
