This was probably one of the first mono portrait images that I attempted, it was taken at a pop-up studio I used to run at events. This man came in and wanted something like the Beatles album cover.

A heck of a challenge - I was in a tiny room beside the stage in a Town Hall, with 2 very basic studio lights, a white backdrop and the sun was poring in through the glass roof! Obviously normally you're selling shots straight out of camera but I did have to work on this whilst he went away and waited. He came back, didn't like/buy it but I always have.

From last week - this is in Saumur. It's the view of the south bank of the Loire river taken from the island in the middle of the river, dividing it briefly into two. So the river you see is only one half of it!. The light was terrible and I had to do a lot of post processing to knock this into any shape!

On first glance, I thought that was Amboise, then realised I was wrong. Maybe the crane should have been removed, but that's a cracking mono shot

Caz I haven't been to Amboise but I had a look at the map and it's 100km upstream to the East. I can see why you thought it was Amboise as that town also splits the Loire in two with an island

Ian - my son used to live in Blois then Tours a few years ago so I visited a few chateau when I went over. My favourite was Chambord, and I've been back several times although the likelihood is less now - son now lives in southern Spain!

A sleepy café/bar in the small market town of Coulonge-sur-l'Autize.

We didn't get tipsy there - just a hot chocolate and an espresso for us!
