  • Something different from me "Ballet"

This was the first time I have had the chance to shoot ballet and I know I have a lot to learn. This was fun even if it was not easy to do and I have a fair few more to edit but here are a few for now.

I really admire the way you get out there and have a go, Peter

The pictures have a quality about them that suggests available light only was used but some of the shadows suggest multiple flash? Would love to know how you set this up.

Oh I do try and get out there and have a go Not that it always works I did set up the flash guns but was soon not happy with the shadows so gave up and went with the light I had. It was a mix of window light and small spots in the roof which did set me a few problems as well. Also the bars were not by the mirrors but by the windows. Having said the the ones here with her foot up were shot on the side wall with no window in it but one facing her. I do have a few others which I will post later today once the young lady has seen them .

Also we talked about shooting a dance style shoot outdoors when the weather is better "we hope " in the style of a flowing dress with her holding a ribbon of sorts blowing in the wind You know me I like shooting outdoors and am looking forward to that

Nice work Pete, not the easiest of subjects to do.

Like Ian I find the lighting on the bar shots confusing but from the highlights on her right side and leg I'm guessing flash or window sunlight on the extreme left so no shadows on the wall and other windows/ skylight casting the shadows on the wall.

Love the first two, I think I would also have also gone for the arty shot of having just her ballet shoe in focus and her out of focus.

Edit..just seen your reply to Ian, I was not far out then.
        Regards Paul.
One day I hope to be the person my dogs think I am.

          Thanks Paul

I did do a few mirror shots with the shoes and will post one later Not easy but fun to do. If you think of a long wall split with 3 windows on one side this is how she was placed between two windows which like you said gives the shadows. I would have liked the bar on the mirror side but it was not to be

Here are a few more and also a shoe/mirror shot. You can see some of the lay out of the room in the photos which will show you the area I had to work in . The full set can be seen on my flickr site if anyone wants to have a look

No exif data so it must be Flickr!

Do you get a lot of views in Flickr, Peter?

My best work is on Flickr and I get mainly very poor views - probably by being a minnow in an ocean.

Sorry I strip it out when exporting from lightroom depends on what you mean by a lot Ian in all the years I have been there my current count is 90,644 which to me is a lot but I have seen people post that they have had hits in the 1000s each day. I think it depends a lot on what you post ie my boudoir photos get the most hits by far. Also do you play the game as in using groups ?? that will drive people to your page. Oh and that's not why I posted the link I also think I am very much a minnow in a very large ocean
