  • Impulse buy of a R2880

    Okay,

hands up I have a terrimundi jar (A money box made of clay which you have to smash to get the money out). I have accidently smashed said jar .

And after I got past the frown from the missus and the "Clumsy daddy" comments from the children I was thrilled to find enough money for a R2880 epson printer.

Obviously I could just save the money but the whole point of having the jar is that I have a tendancy to spend what I can get my hands on. The jar prevents that.

So I have a R1800 printer and was wondering if anyone reckons the print quality of the new R2880 will be better. I know the inks are different. I use Harman Gloss FB AI paper almost exclusively so the switch of gloss / matte waste of ink issue probably won't effect me that much.

What do people think. Has technology improved from the R1800 to the R2880?

    Thanks

Hi Josh, the R2880 is actually quite a different printer to the R1800 and is not directly descended from the R1800 anyway.

The R1800 has been superseded by the R1900, while the R2880 replaces the R2400. The R2880 is especially good at printing mono as it has greyscale inks, while the advantage of the R1800/1900 is that they have a gloss optimiser.

Let us know how you are getting with the R2880 and what you notice in terms of differences

      Thanks ian
      I. Am sat at my kids swimming lessons reading reviews and posts on various sites. It would seem to come down to this if you print mostly colour then the r1900 is the one to go for. If b&w is important at all then go with the r2880.

With that said the r1900 is not considered to be worth the expense if you already own a r1800! So since my b&w printing is minimal perhaps I should stick with what I have.

      Best regards

the main disadvantages of R2880 ....does not have the gloss optimiser and so is not particularly good on gloss papers. It also has smaller ink cartridges (11ml v 14ml on R1800) and you need to swap black cartridges when changing between matte and gloss/semi-gloss papers which wastes a lot of ink.
