  • Does the HP B9180 printer smell?

    HI All,

I am considering getting the HP 9180 printer. However I have read a couple of worrying comments that it smells.

My plan was to put this in the bedroom next to the computer (Only place in the house i have room)

However if there is any smell this is a no go.

If there is a smell is it there all the time, or just when printing, if its just the latter i can probably get away with it.

Also the advice from HP is to keep this on all the time. How loud is the printer when in standby mode - i.e. not printing.

    Thanks,
    excel

    HI ALL,

It may not seem so, but this is a serious qu. I would be extremely grateful if someone owning a B9180 could answer my concerns below. (Thanks in advance). I am not a proffessional so don't have an office etc. I'm a amateur who wants to produce long last high quality prints - I have to put the printer somewhere...

    Thanks,

    John

I think it's fair to say that damp prints have a slight musty quality about them, but it's certainly not bothersome and dry prints don't have any odour to them.

This thread is not showing on the portal page and is maybe a reason why there have been few comments, people may just not have seen it. Either that or they don't know the answer

There is however an excellent review by Vincent Oliver on photo-i dot com and so far as I can see he makes no mention of strange smells. Usually though any new piece of kit has the 'new' smell and as Ian suggests damp prints also have a smell. Not sure what else to say

Hi Stephen - it's showing on the portal page at my end.

Danny Chau remarked when he first had one of the new HP Pigment ink printers in that the wet prints did have an odd smell compared to Epson prints, but this was more an observation than a complaint and the prints don't smell after they have dried.

              HI,
My question was of the printer rather than the prints from them.
              Thanks,
              John
