  • F1 Spoiler.....dont read if you havent watched!

OK, you have been warned, if you are waiting to watch the highlights from todays race at Spa, dont read........

I have to say that I am bitterly disapointed at todays decision to demote Lewis 25 seconds for crossing the chicane to avoid an accident.

The fact he let off the loud pedal and allowed Kimi to regain the lead, and was still penalised was a suprise.

Especially as Ferrari got away with their pit lane antics last race.

I do hope there will be an inquiry on this decision, in my eyes, it is totally unfair!

I'm totally gutted. How can they call it sport. It's not as though Kimi even finished. So advantage over someone who couldn't keep it on the road.

Today we were eating lunch in the kitchen and my wife switched on the race which had about twelve laps remaing. I found it quite exciting and was so pleased when Lewis won. Imagine how I feel now.

So you see, it was all my fault. I don't watch TV very much - perhaps an hour or two a week. (I used to be an avid viewer of the GP in days past.)

not seen the race so not entirely sure of what i'd have seen, however after hearing a snippet on radio 1 this morning on drive into work, i've concluded that as long as you drive a ferrari, the fia turn a blind eye. drive a mclaren and the hounds are released.
i was under the impression that if you cut a chicane and don't gain an advantage (by giving back any places made in the process) then there's no grounds for a penalty other than a warning. obviously if this continues to occur then exclusion for poor driving should be expected.
is this just another ploy to keep controversy in f1?

ok, having seen it numerous times now, the stewards got it oh so wrong. hamilton reeled kimi in over the course of half a lap, was ahead (tenuous) going into the chicane, door closed by kimi, avoided collision, gained lead, gave back lead, was 5mph slower than kimi, tucked in behind kimi, kimi dodged right then left, hamilton went to the right, outbroke him into the hairpin and got tapped in the process. the fact that kimi then binned it later in the lap (that was quality) is immaterial.

seems it's situation normal. drive a red car and you can do no wrong, drive a mclaren and you're guilty before anything has happened.

just hope it's lamping it down for the remainder of the gp's

will it looks like McLaren are going ahead with the appeal, and frankly I hope to god that the adjudicators see sense, and hand the victory back to its rightful owner.

The ITV F1 web site, makes for very interesting reading, with just about all stating that it was a daft decision, take a look at what Niki Lauda says:

The Jackie Stewart article also makes for interesting reading.

OK I will bite. I think I was watching a different race. Yes he saw kimi was having trouble and tried to under take him. Kimi shut the door nothing wrong with that. Lewis then cuts the chicane. This then puts him right on the back end of the Ferrari so much nearer then he would have been had he taken the chicane as he should have. He then lets Kimi pull back up and pass him but nowhere near the space kimi would have had. This is what all the fuss is about he gained more space then he should or would have had.

OK I have now got that out my system. Having said all that lewis should have waited because he saw how bad kimi was driving in the rain. He would have had him in the next half lap or so.

Oh and how funny is it that now that Ferrari are still the bad boys of F1 even without a Schumacher behind the wheel

                  Come on the REDS.

What took you so long Peter! haha

I think in this instance, you may be in a minority. But I do see your point, in my opinion though, if it wasnt wet, doing what Hamilton did would have been more than ample, it just looked closer because Kimi was so much slower.

Sorry I have taken so long but was having to much fun reading about it on plant f1. That is a great f1 website. I may be in the minority but then again I think I always have been on this site. Oh and your last part of comment says it all. Yes kimi was so much slower and lewis saw this so why did he try and overtake there. Do not just say it's the racer in him as he would have seen that he would have loads more chances elsewhere on track. Oh and notice I said on track

why wait when the perfect opportunity arose there and then at the hairpin? you grab your opportunities there and then as they may not appear again.
frankly, kimi was useless in the wet, so it was safer to get past him at the first chance

mclaren are the bad boys of F1, ferrari are the saints. oops, sorry, looking through the FIA filter there.

Yes kimi was useless in the rain so is the Ferrari this year. Lewis knows this thats why I said he should have waited. He must have know he would get a better chance later on.

Oh and with the good and bad boys of F1 glad we have now got that one sorted

Isn't it all rather simple? Hamilton had to slow down to let Raikkonen back past. How can that be viewed as an unfair advantage? There was no slipstreaming. The only reason why Hamilton managed to get past again on that short straight was because Kimi was going much too slow. Hamilton would have had him there either way. And Ferrari is not defending the stewards either and had no plans to protest Hamilton's move before the ruling was made. So all we have is a lot of bad publicity over the sport and some very unhappy fans, who may soon be ex-fans.

That's what I'm really worried about.

The officials can and often do get it wrong. You may remember the Tae Kwon do (I think?!) judge at the Olympics a few weeks back that failed to record the bout-winning kick from a British competitor. Although there is no apparent mechanism for correcting such things, everyone saw sense and the win was eventually and rightly handed to the real victor.
