Re: Alonso returns home...
Well I guess it was on the cards who else would have him. Oh and did Lewis fail to win again at the weekend

Re: Alonso returns home...
I'm sorry but what a bunch of crock. If Kovie was faster than Alonso, they'd have kept Kovie and not waited for Alonso. To suggest they dumped the faster driver and paid loads of money for the slower driver is so pathetic it's not even worth considering.

There isn't a single mention of anyone claiming Kovy is the faster driver. I'd respectfully suggest that you re-read the linked article...Originally posted by JSR View PostI'm sorry but what a bunch of crock. Re: Alonso returns home...
What's the re-read? It says in the very title "dropped because he was too fast". That in itself implies that he's faster than Alonso. If he was slower than Alonso, then he wouldn't be too fast.Originally posted by Bearface View PostThere isn't a single mention of anyone claiming Kovy is the faster driver. The article goes on to suggest that he's being dropped because Alonso doesn't want a teammate going faster than him, with reference to Hamilton in 2007. That also implies that Kovie is dropped because he's faster than Alonso.
If he was slower than Alonso, then the reason for being dropped is because he's too slow - not because he's too fast.
How is my interpretation of that article wrong?

Re: Alonso returns home...
It implies nothing of the sort. The opening paragraph sums it all up perfectly:Originally posted by JSR View PostWhat's the re-read? It says in the very title "dropped because he was too fast". "Heikki Kovalainen was reportedly jettisoned by Renault in favour of Nelson Piquet junior because Fernando Alonso was wary of the Finn's pace."
Again, you're speculating and using words that simply weren't used in the Autosport quote:Originally posted by JSR View PostThe article goes on to suggest that he's being dropped because Alonso doesn't want a teammate going faster than him, with reference to Hamilton in 2007. 'It is understood that his speed ultimately cost him the chance of staying on board at Renault, because the returning Fernando Alonso did not want a team-mate to pose the kind of challenge that he faced with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren this year.'
It's pretty simple - Alonso wants his team-mate to play a supporting role and that means someone who doesn't constantly challenge him and undermine his dominance within the team. There is absolutely no suggestion anywhere within the linked piece where it is suggested that Kovy is a faster driver than Alonso..........it simply isn't there.
That is complete nonsense.Originally posted by JSR View PostIf he was slower than Alonso, then the reason for being dropped is because he's too slow - not because he's too fast.

Re: Alonso returns home...
So "Alonso was wary of the Finn's pace" doesn't mean that Alonso thinks Kovie is too fast? Does it mean that he thinks he's too slow then?Originally posted by Bearface View PostIt implies nothing of the sort. The opening paragraph sums it all up perfectly:
"Heikki Kovalainen was reportedly jettisoned by Renault in favour of Nelson Piquet junior because Fernando Alonso was wary of the Finn's pace."
So Alonso not wanting to be challenged by his teammate doesn't mean that he thinks Kovie is too fast for him, then? Surely Kovie must be faster than him if Alonso thinks he has a chance of challenging him the way Hamilton did. Otherwise, why even mention Alonso's name in the piece.Originally posted by Bearface View PostAgain, you're speculating and using words that simply weren't used in the Autosport quote:

So the headline "'Kovalainen dropped because he was too fast" doesn't mean that he was dropped because he was too fast? There is absolutely no suggestion anywhere within the linked piece where it is suggested that Kovy is a faster driver than Alonso..........it simply isn't there.
When they say Kovie was dropped because he's too fast, what do they mean? Too fast for what? Surely the point of an F1 driver is to be fast, you can't be too fast.
And if the article isn't meant to say that Kovie was dropped because he was too fast for Alonso, then just what is it trying to say? Is it to suggest that Alonso's jealous of him?
All I can read from the article is Kovie dropped for being too fast and Alonso not wanting another year like 2007 with a teammate being faster than him. Perhaps I have that wrong and someone else didn't like Kovie being so fast. Hmm, an F1 team kicking out a driver for being too fast... there's a novelty.

Re: Alonso returns home...
We've found your problem; you view things in simple black and white. Things are never black and white...Originally posted by JSR View PostSo "Alonso was wary of the Finn's pace" doesn't mean that Alonso thinks Kovie is too fast? Does it mean that he thinks he's too slow then?
It means that clearly that the management and Alonso don't want a driver who will challenge Alonso's position within the team. It really couldn't be simpler.
It could mean anything in isolation, however the article itself explains things perfectly clearly.Originally posted by JSR View PostSo the headline "'Kovalainen dropped because he was too fast" doesn't mean that he was dropped because he was too fast?
That's a lot of questions............the answers to which you'll find in the article and by using some common sense.Originally posted by JSR View PostWhen they say Kovie was dropped because he's too fast, what do they mean? Too fast for what? Surely the point of an F1 driver is to be fast, you can't be too fast.
It would appear that Alonso fears being challenged by any potential team-mate. Did I really have to explain that to you yet again..?Originally posted by JSR View PostAnd if the article isn't meant to say that Kovie was dropped because he was too fast for Alonso, then just what is it trying to say? Is it to suggest that Alonso's jealous of him?
You're obsessed with focusing on the extremes of everything in this context. It's not about who is faster per se, it's just that Alonso doesn't want another team-mate who he has to compete with........both in the championship and within the team. Does that mean that Kovy is faster than Alonso? No, of course it doesn't, which is why the linked article didn't make that claim.Originally posted by JSR View PostAll I can read from the article is Kovie dropped for being too fast and Alonso not wanting another year like 2007 with a teammate being faster than him. Too fast and faster mean two completely different things...

i must be in that boat too. my in-a-nutshell interpretation of what the article contains is that allegedly, alonso doesn't want to face the possibility of a team-mate that has sufficient pace to threaten his position as no 1 driver. i.e. he's concerned kovi is faster than he'd be comfortable with.
be good to see kovi go to mclaren.
