Having seen the latest TV news about the state of the fires in Greece and the fact that forty deaths have been reported, I began to realise that we have not seen much evidence of 'Archangel' in the forums lately and hope that he is OK. I don't know when his last contribution was and whether he 'crossed swords' with anyone here and that may be the reason that we have not seen him lately. I know he lives in Greece and wondered if he may have got caught up in the fires.

Re: Fire in Greece
I think he probably just moved on. Come to think of it - I haven't see JonMikal for ages either. People just tend to come and go and move to and fro amongst internet forums.Originally posted by jojo View PostHow nice to show your concern Dennis. I too have noticed his absence and mentioned this to Ian during the Oxford meet. Don't think he's heard from him either. Can anyone shed any light?
Jo
He's still a listed member - here as well as other boards - but I guess he's probably 'resting' or 'lurking' as I don't see much from him elsewhere either.

Re: Fire in Greece
Do hope that George, and all our other Greek members (if there are any) are ok. The news appears to be getting worse and worse.
I haven't heard from him for some time, but have sent him an email to find out if he's ok..carolannphotos.smugmug.com / webleedmusicmedia.com

Re: Fire in Greece
There was a report on the radio station by someone on the ground there by the name of George something - Archangle isn't a journalist by any chance? I know its unlikely to have been him but does anyone know what his profession is - if his profession is something to do with photography he could possibly have something to do with journalism as well I suppose."My own suspicion is that the universe is not only stranger than we suppose, but stranger than we can suppose."

I don't think the fires are in that area.. not as far as I could tell anyway.
He has a boat as well as a house at the beach so I'm pretty sure he'll be ok.
You can google for him for more info. He's used many boards, often posts as Archangel_GT.

George is from Athens which is a long way from the fires. Should not be a problem for him.Originally posted by Pol View PostHe works in IT and often referred to his house in the country, where he spends w/e and Summers. he's often posted images of the area where it's situated. It's in Galaxidi.

He's also a very tough and capable individual who can take care of himself. Nor would he be likely to take risks. I think we should also remember that we tend to hear about how many victims there are, which can sometimes mean we can easily get things out of perspective and forget how many more people are perfectly safe.Originally posted by lumix View PostGeorge is from Athens which is a long way from the fires. Re: Fire in Greece
Hello to all,
I have been away from DPNow for sometime after I decided to drop off and erase all my galleries and photos due to accusation through private messaging of being inaccurate in my posts frequently and being responsible of creating debates in the forum.
Anyway. I do keep in touch through e-mail with some users from DPNow and have been notified by them that there is a post about the fires in Greece and a reference to my name.
There is a major disaster in Peloponnese. Thousands of square kilometers of forestry has been destroyed, houses in villages have been burnt, 63 people verified dead by now.
The situation has been considered as a national disaster and the biggest in terms of forestry in the history of Greece. More than 500 fires happen at the same time in Peloponnese at this time and this has been considered to be a sabotage. Situation is under investigation and for me that I know the size and forestry of Peloponnese, I can tell that no matter how many Planes, Helicopters, Fire Brigade or other equipment are used it is impossible to put all these fires off.
There have been some blames mostly from foreign media channels of inability to deal with all these fires, but that is all wrong and inaccurate as all planes, helicopters fly from sunrise to sunset dropping loads of water continuously and need to put off more than a million of square kilometers of fire.
Weather doesn't help either as the last days temperatures were up to 42-45 Celcius and winds were present.
Thank you all for your concern for me and my country. I'm OK, but I cannot reach the fires to take photos as I live far enough from them and access to the areas close to them has been restricted only to TV channels and TV reporters.
I wish you all the best and I prefer to keep in my mind happy moments than sad, so here are a few attached photos.

Re: Fire in Greece
Hi George, and it's very good to hear that you and your family are well.
Our sympathies must go out to the families of your countrymen and women who have lost loved ones in this disaster.
As always, a beautiful set of photos - it's difficult to pick favourites out of this set, but I particularly like the moon picture and the sunset.

Re: Fire in Greece
George...Tikanis! It's good to see you! Dreadfull news re the fires, but I'm glad to see that you are fine. The news here have claimed numerous fires have been started by arsonists! That happens summertime here in Australia too as well as around Cape Town in South Africa! Forrested areas are set alight, which destroys or threatens hectares of vineyards too! It's great to see your pics again, thanx for posting a couple for us to see! Don't let the minority of harsh words & seemingly accusational verbosity, that apparantly occurs, put you off (or for that matter, anyone else!) Its a free thinking world we live in & we are all entitled to our own opininions! Life is far too short for negativity! Remember the song....Don't worry...be Happy! BTW...If I offend anyone here with this latest post...I apollogise....as it isn't intended!!

Re: Fire in Greece
Jocelyn,
How can such kind ,wise words be offensive?
I also am glad to see that George is not affected by the fires. And at the same time i will keep his country in my prayers. I love His pictures and have missed them myself, I also would love to see him in the forums as a regular again.

Re: Fire in Greece
Good to know you're OK George. Sounds like a bad situation down there - people can be so destructive. Of course Mediterrean climates in summer like Greece and Cape Town and parts of Australia are particularly susceptible and although a certain amount of burning is required by the indigenous flora to disperse seeds etc these days too much of it is going on and its nothing but destructive to all concerned"My own suspicion is that the universe is not only stranger than we suppose, but stranger than we can suppose."

Re: Fire in Greece
Hi George - Glad to hear that you are safe and sound and lovely to see some more of your excellent photos. Like everyone else here on the forum we are all shocked and saddened to here about the great losses that your country and people are suffering due to the mindless acts of idiots or criminals. I would like to endorse what Jocelyn has said about missing you in the forums together with your photos, do come back and do not take it too much to heart what a few say when they hold a different view to yours. As someone else has said its a free world and one can hold differing views from others. In conclusion I am pleased that my original post on the topic has provoked such a great deal of discussion.

Re: Fire in Greece
George there is very little that I can add that hasn't already been said. I do understand how you must have felt. I came very close to making the same decision as yourself, even removed all my images from the gallery, but hell I'm thick skinned and like it or not I'm determined to stay and have my say.Originally posted by DennisP View PostHi George - Glad to hear that you are safe and sound and lovely to see some more of your excellent photos. Do hope you reconsider the situation and lets be having some more of your terrific images. I wish you well what ever you decide.
