  • Mars

Apparantly according to Discovery Channel News, Mars will be really close to Earth, bright enough to look like there are 2 moons on the 27th of August....brightest on this date! We will never again see this in OUR lifetime, as its next occurrence will be centuries away! What amazing photos could this give rise to! Has anyone else got any news on this, or where it would best viewed eg what country?

I don't know but I'll keep an eye open for any info about it and I'll post again if I find anything.

Goatsmilk (Stu) is into that sort of thing, has an astronomy telescope and sometimes takes pics through it. So maybe he'll post about it nearer the time.

Jocelyn - did you actually see the news bulletin when it was announced? Are you sure it's genuine?

I ask because a quick search reveals that there was a hoax email circulating about 2 moons on 27th August 2006. I thought it a bit of an odd coincidence if there was really a genuine event due on 27 August for this year.

Yep it's a hoax. Apparently it gets re-circulated every year.

Well that is a shame that stupid people make up hoaxes! I was quite looking forward to seeing that! I wasn't 100% sure it was news on Discovery however & went back to check my info on reading your posts Pol & sure enough it was from an e-mail! I am sorry to have been sucked in by that!
