              Re: Menswear

I think they're all perfectly acceptable forms of attire, particularly the outfit featured in image number four. Sure, the models have forgotten to put their trousers on in a few of the shots, but we'll nevertheless all be wearing this stuff in a matter of weeks...

I'm a big fan of those flouncy Gaultier under-kecks.....they look comfortable and practical and yet the garish patterns would undoubtedly impress the laydees

I didn't mention you'd been doing some of the modelling as I didn't want to run the risk of you being knocked over as you were swamped for autographs.

What colours are you wearing today?

Mine are black and white striped...

Somehow I can't see the current armed forces or ex-servicemen running out to get any of these outfits - and if my partner, who's ex-navy, went out wearing outfit number 7 I think I'd have the screaming habdabs

Besides, he wouldn't get the chance to show off his tattoos

A gentleman would politely brush off such a question...

                    ...they're black, actually

I see. Or not...........as I should hastily point out we're at opposite ends of the country...

Caz ..... vertical or horizontal stripes? Tim .... Matte or glossy?

I was cringing last night thinking back to some of my own clobber from the late 60s. I used to kit myself out at Biba (Kensington High St). I remember feeling very smart wearing bright/light purple velvet hotpants with a skimpy pink silk blouse with a huge ruffle down th front. I wore that lot with clunky black patent leather shoes that had a huge gold buckle on the front and topped it all with a floppy pink linen or straw hat. I also used to spend a small fortune having my long hair defrizzed, steamed and conditioned so it would hang smooth and sleek.. then I'd cover it with stupid floppy hats.

My boyfriend of that time wore a guardsman's red jacket and 'Zhivago' style army coat from Carnaby street. He also had stupid long (reddish) hair that wouldn't lie flat and a scruffy beard to match.

When my defrizzed, steamed, oiled and conditioned sleek hair wasn't hanging loose I used to have it piled on top in stupid, huge curls with slides or ribbons decorating it.

                      We thought we were great.

Pol - they were horizontally striped (thank goodness I wasn't in an accident yesterday.... wouldn't want the poor paramedics being greeted by them !)

I was just behind you.... early 70s were my 'heyday'... when I wasn't kitted out like a part time hippy I had to dress 'smartly' for my bank job. In those days, the secretaries were visible just behind the bank tellers in the days before banks became glass fortresses.

And hotpants? I see these young lasses who think it's a brand new fashion - just to give you a laugh, this was me circa August 71 - I seem to remember that the belt was purple suede, and I had a fringed handbag to match. It was taken whilst visiting an aunt in Dagenham.

                          Those were the days, eh.

Skirts couldn't get any shorter so we wore pants instead then accessorised them with clunky belts. I still have some of the belts somewhere, black suede with long tassels, gold chain with huge links, a wooden one with wood shapes and gold links. All too small for me now 'cos I was a 'Twiggy' clone in those days.

I used to go to parties in nightdresses too. The ones that were like dresses made from very fine, delicate fabric. I used to get them from Dotty Perkins, add a few trimmings then Bob's yer uncle. I think I might still have one of those stuffed away somewhere too .. along with long strings of black beaded necklaces and an ancient black embroidered shawl and manky black fur coat fom Camden Market.

You should have been down in London on Saturday. I was down there (despite the bomb threat) innocently waiting to go into a movie in Leicester Square just at the time when the gay pride gathering in Trafalgar Square ended and they all came galavanting past.

The one that really entertained was a very thin character covered completely in red lycra feet and all, no shoes and longred tail and two ted horns coming out the head. Fingers completely covered and extended in long red claws at least 1 foot in length which were be demonstrated by our friend clawing the air as he walked by. But the cherry on the top of two pairs of red huge fully nippled breasts protruding from his breast!

It rather took the edge off "Becoming Jane" which I spent the next two hours watching. I cursed myself that I had not brought my camera with me.
