  • Interesting speed trap data

I was looking at formula1.com, which is the 'official' F1 site, to see how Honda's forst use of their new higher-spec engine had translated in to improved straight line speed for messrs. Button and Barrichello. The good news is that the new engine was not only reliable - at a real engine track - but the straight line speed deficit is down to about 5kph compared to 13kph at Monza. In Shanghai the Hondas were in the bottom 6-7 for straight line speed and now they are mid-field.

Anyway, I also noticed that Schumacher's Ferrari was significantly faster than anyone else in final qualifying - in a straight line; 3kph faster than Massa. I'm now wondering if MS, under pressure from Alons and Massa (eventual pole-winner) used extreme go faster engine settings for his best lap and this came home to roost when his engine let go the following day. I suppose we will never know...

I guess this has something to do with the new rules for the few years ie the engine they run for the last two races are the ones the most use for the next few seasons.

As above I guess. Yes I would think Ferrari would want schumi to go out with the title and also they would want the manufactures title but they must look ahead and plan for the years to come.

And yes I will eat humble pie no Rubens did not kick Button's **s. Good job I did not have money on that one.
