Can McLaren maintain their Monaco advantage? Ferrari says no... it'll be fascintaing to see what pans out. Honda are also promising some improvements for the next couple of races - fingers crossed!

Montreal is quite a power circuit, so BMW could be strong here.

Did anyone see the quote from JV this week criticising Hamilton for being Schumacher-style aggressive at race starts? I don't see it myself.

Yes I saw that, JV always had something to say about the other drivers more so when it was not going well for himself. Never did like him. He was a driver that seemed to be in F1 because of who his father was. Do not get me wrong yes he could drive and he was champion in 97 but he always seemed to be moaning about something. Oh and I think he had a run in with a German driver that year but it may be better if we do not drag that one up .

Is that the first practice?. Not so bad Ferrari always seem to go slow on Fridays . Lets see if Kimmi has it in him this weekend Honda did say not much will happen till the new car comes later in the year so I guess thats about all you and JB can hope for .

There is another session in their afternoon today.

Honda are supposed to have a new aero package for the US races. The b-spec car will be after that, I understand.

Well LH has got his first pole in f1. So what does this mean??. Well I guess that it means that it will not be worth tuning in to the race till about one minute before the race gets under way. That is unless you want watch the LH
show.Now that may seem a bit harsh but look at how much of todays warm up show was all about him . Yes he is Good but come on he is not out there on his own. Looks like it will be a hard race for the boys in red.

It was a fantastic feat. Consider: first season in F1, he beat the 2x and current champ in the same equipment and by half a second. On top of that, two days ago he'd never driven the circuit. This is by far Hamilton's most emphatic performance so far.

Are Ferrari fuelled longer? Well, even so, the McLarens are the best part of a second a lap faster - at a circuit where Ferrari were supposed to have the advantage once more. I'm sure powers that be at Ferrari are far from happy or content tonight.

And it's weekend to forget for Honda and Jenson too!

I think that in the race there won't be much to choose in terms of pace between the McLarens. Mind you we don't know how much anyone is fuelled. The conditions seem very changeable too.

If it's a straightforward race, I can't seen anyone challenging the McLarens and so it kind of depends who leads after the first lap.

Yes I agree with this, but the thing is why we must have almost the whole show devoted to him. Is it just me or are we missing some off the behind the scenes stuff. Over the last few years we have had some great behind the scenes stuff that we just are not getting this year.

Oh and did you hear Martin when he said that Ferrari built the car stronger so Schumacher could use it to barge his way around the track

Well, it's all getting interesting, isn't it? It's now 2.30pm and the F1 GP is a few hours away, but the qualifying sessions really showed how well McLaren are developing their cars relative to Ferrari. I don't doubt for a second that Ferrari's design / dynamics will give them the advantage at certain circuits, but McLaren's relative pace at this stage must surely have come as a surprise, even to them.

Of course we mustn't forget that qualifying (the serious part of it, in any case) is done on the soft compound tyres, so lap times are not necessarily indicative of race pace by any means. I'll bet McLaren will fuel Lewis short so that he gets to race off and lead the race for the first stint, while Alonso will be fuelled up, both to hold back the Ferraris (and Heidfeld) and to give him the opportunity to take the lead while others (including Hamilton) take their first pit stops. I still firmly believe that Ron is deliberately holding Hamilton back and so I'm fully expecting Fernando to pass him during the pit-stops, however if I turn out to be wrong, I'll be delighted for Lewis because other than Kimi I think he's already the greatest talent in Formula One.

Speaking of Kimi, I think he needs to shine somewhat over the next handful of races, so Canada and Indianapolis are arguably the most critical races for him this season, certainly if there is to be a chance of him winning the championship. If he fails to capitalise at this stage, I can see the team pulling around Massa and gearing him up to challenge for the title. While I don't see Massa as a great talent (and I feel the same about Alonso...) he's solid and consistent which can often be enough if the package is competitive and reliable. Plus, Felipe is settled (and therefore properly integrated) in a team that Raikonnen is not. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Kimi today, while at the same time hoping that Mr Dennis allows his best driver to race freely......however in both cases I'm keeping my expectations realistic

Peter, I think the media's interest in Hamilton is entirely justified. Here we have a rookie F1 driver who has enjoyed more success in his first handful of races than literally any other driver in the sport's history. Not only is he naturally fast, agressive and consistent behind the wheel, but he's also a bright, personable and level-headed person who is flying the flag for Britain and for the black community worldwide; itself a long-awaited first in F1. On so many levels he's great for the sport and for the country and I think we should celebrate the fact that we have our own world-class hero in F1 for the first time in many, many years.

JV is a piece of work. He was a mediocre GP driver (a bit like Damon Hill really...) who only enjoyed success when he was with Williams and their car was superior to the field by some considerable margin. He's always tried to be controversial or outspoken and yet unlike Eddie Irvine - who could carry it off without looking foolish - JV has always come across as a spoilt, petulent little brat. What he said about Hamilton this week (and his other rivals in the past) was just nonsense. He's a bad sport and will forever live in the shadow of his father, who was everything he will never be. There, I've said it...

Finally, did anyone see the Moto GP..? The final eight or so laps gave us such exiting, close racing between Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa, that I almost forgot about the impending F1 GP completely. Those guys were absolutely on the ragged edge out there and although I love F1 dearly, it reminded me how much better Moto GP is as a spectator sport relative to the glorified processions we often see in F1

Anyway, place yer bets. I'm going for Hamilton to win, followed by Alonso and then Raikonnen. Heidfeld or Massa will take fourth and fifth, although I can't decide which way around

Now you are spot on with that. talking about people who live in other peoples shadow, How much longer will Ralf have a drive.
