  • South African Disaster of another Kind

I have recently been sent photographs of the Tsunami that hit the Natal Coast from North to South of Durban, where I used to live some time back. This occured last week & I don't think it even made Australian backpage news! A Tsunami hits elsewhere & we never hear the end of it for months on end! Millions of Australian dollars flow out in aid for that particular country! Strange! The Natal Tsunami has caused billions of Rands damage to properties & infrastructure, but its not even mentioned! There are some incredible photos of it on websites from Natal East Coast Radio, including the storms that followed & amazing lightning pics & videos!

Jocelyn, It was not a Tsunami but a spring tide, made somewhat worse by a storm out to sea. Some of the damage was pretty nasty but there was minimal loss of life.

It looked a dam sight bigger Spring Tide than East coast usually gets Guy! Have a look on East Coast Radio website of pics. Spring Tide or King Tides happen without fail I know, but thank goodness there were no losses to life. However, whether it was a Tsunami (or old name -Tidal wave) or not, it caused one heck of a lot of damage to properties etc, costing millions by all accounts!
