  • F1 news night race

    Hi everyone

I saw something on this the other day but did not post anything about it.

What do you think good or bad and why??.

Two things sping to mind first safety you would need a lot of light to cover a f1 track and second they say they are trying to make f1 more environmentally
friendly but just thing of all those lights and the light pollution.

    Hi Peter,

I'm not that convinced - it's a gimmick. I can see the need for endurance racing, but not F1.

How long is it to the first race of the season - 29 days by my reckoning; Melbourne here we come! (Well, alas, not phyiscally!)...

Well watching some of the night racing in IRL the is so much light needed to be safe its allmost daylight . So whats the point? Sports cars have their own headlights But on TV all you see is headlights As for F1 this year i've a feeling it'll be a classic (if they remove the cars wings )

With the 6 hours and up time differential, USA F1 fans must record and time shift in some fashion, or lose quite a bit of sleep. There was quite a bit of concern when NASCAR went to night races at some of the larger tracks, but it was much more humane for the drivers and the fans because of cooler evening weather (and no sunburn!). It was also somewhat safer because of better adhesion and less change in track conditions during the race. Most racing in the USA is done at night, because most of the drivers and mechanics are spending their own or limited sponsorship money -- a day job other than racing is an imperative. Only the very few high dollar series can afford to race in daylight.

I know in my heart of hearts that F1 will do the right thing -- that which most greatly increases the wealth of the owners of the series! That's not sarcasm, that's cynicism.

I think the USA will always be out of sync with the rest of the world when it comes to f1. The idea is so that the races will be around 1pm European time.
The nascar races are they on ovals at night??. Also off topic I see Schumacher was offered a nascar test this week . Something to do with what he said last season.

Is this not what F1 is.

              Peter--

I agree that F1 is Euro-centric, an unfortunate fact to those in the USA who enjoy the level of competition and skill F1 represents. I believe it is THE premiere racing series in the world!

re NASCAR on ovals at night, the Daytona 500 runs today, TV coverage begins at 3 P.M. Eastern Time, so the race will begin in the warmest part of the day and go into the evening, finishing under the lights.

I'd love to see Schumacher in NASCAR. He would likely dominate it as he did F1. Montoya, who just moved down to NASCAR from F1 to prolong his income stream and employment, is showing how well a skilled driver can perform regardless of car or track.

My apologies for introducing a non-F1 element into this portion of the forum. I'll work to contain myself more closely in the future. I do understand that DPNow's mission is to become the UK's premiere site for photo related information and exchange.

And NASCAR vehicles have only run at Goodwood, if memory serves.

                I dont see the point.

Especially from an environmental point of view (if thats not a contridiction to talk about the environment for F1! haha ). Like Ian said, just a gimmick in my eyes!
