  • Nik collection.

Anyone using it ? I realize that it is not going to be updated anymore.

I have now downloaded it and using it as a stand alone editor, as I don't subscribe to photoshop.
I have read in the past that it cant be used as a stand alone programme.
But having followed advice. It works perfectly well.

The only three little drawbacks are.

1/ You need to work on a copy photo. If you use an original photo and alter it. The original will NOT be saved.

2/ Being used as a stand alone. You need to put the apps on your desk top.

3/ You need to drag and drop the required photo to the particular app that you want to use.

Unless anyone here can advise me....................

I am very impressed with Nik collection, and will be using it a lot.

I have it also, but I use it with Lightroom. I bought and upgraded LR from the go, but now I believe you have to subscribe to it. I am very happy with what I have and paid for and I can opt to edit in the Nik collection. If you look at the videos, it is amazing what you can do with it, the trouble is I forget.

You could spend the rest of your life just altering and adjusting images. Must get on, got some work to do!

      Re: Nik collection.

The more I play with Nik collection. The more I like it.

I am learning more and more from this programme.

Wish I had installed it sooner.

I use Colour EFEX for nearly all my editing but as a plug-in to Elements. It's just so much easier to select areas using control points than messing about with lots of layer masks in photoshop.
The filter I use most for quick fixes is Pro-contrast normally combined with levels and curves.
If you save as TIFF it will not overwrite you original jpeg. As I use it as a plug-in to Elements I'll finish my edit there and then merge visisble layer to get a resulting jpeg for viewing.

Lots to play with, have fun.

Great! Some very handy info there, Andy.

          Will take note.

            Re: Nik collection.

I use it on some of my pix and found it very useful when using Photoshop Elements until now.
I recently updated the program PSE to Photoshop Elements 2018. I'm not sure if Adobe have restricted Nik in not allowing it to be put in the plugin section of the program - it's quite a bother using two Element programs just to use Nik Collection.

            ..

Two elements to use Nik ?

Like I say, Barrie. You can use Nik as a stand alone programme.

                Re: Nik collection.

                What is strange is........

When using as a standalone editor. For Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro etc
                the option is just SAVE

But for HDR Efex Pro, only. The option is to save as, which does not overwrite the original image.

I realise of course that Nik wasn't really intended as a stand alone.
