This news video brings home the nightmare for one resident in Dawlish. I think he's from one of the houses alongside the railway line that was washed away when the sea wall was destroyed last night.
Images from the coastal areas of southern England where strong winds and big waves have damaged a railway line, left homes without power and led to major disruption.
This shows the awesome power of nature and is indeed shocking. We seem to be getting one disaster after another just lately and there is no sign of when it will end. I feel so sorry for the people who have had their homes flooded or destroyed.

For the life of me I can't understand why a National emergency hasn't been declared. We spend billions in overseas aid but as of yet nothing positive has been done to help our own.
It does appear that the comment made by P Charles has at least shamed the government into taking some action but even that is just talk up to now.
The poor souls down south are in for another weekend of storms.

The problem is that it isn't over yet and apparently the worst is yet to come. There are amber severe weather warnings of gales and rain all along the south coast for the coming w/e - from Cornwall right across to Kent and further inland.
I anticipate a lot more damage all along the entire coastline and there's nothing anyone can do, other than advise and evacuate residents, until the storms move away and the full extent of the damage can be fully assessed.
