Is the Sony Cyber-shot QX100 just one step too far in the Camera/Phone crossover

    Why do you ask that?

I have a QX10, the cheaper version. I haven't used it in anger yet, though.

PS If you don't know what these QX things are, they are cameras that look like lenses that you can attach to a smartphone. The smartphone controls the camera module using wifi acting as the screen and shutter release, including settings control, using a dedicated app.

I've fully embraced the whole "camera in a phone" and even appreciate the moves made towards improving the image quality and capability of the camera element of the smartphone.

These "add-ons" appear to provide little improvement over the likes of the Nokia Lumia 1020 & other top end smartphones, while they bring a whole range of impracticalities.

It would be of passing interest to know how they stack up in terms of IQ against the better smartphones, but ultimately the idea of carrying a "smart-lens" about, does not seem that smart; to my way of thinking...

I shall not be adding one to my "Dear Santa" list
