  • Now what have I done wrong

I seem to have broken something...

Graham_of_Rainham, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
    Or I've upset the powers-that-be

I've just realised that it's when I tried to reply to your "Blog" entry.

Keep tabs on the latest blog updates here on DPNow. To make a response, please post to the blog you're interested in, not this forum board.

I've got exactly the same thing:

I think that's the message you get when you try to reply to a blog thread rather than replying in the blog post.

Thanks, David, that seems to have worked.

It seems a bit daft that you can't just click "Reply" to reply. Instead you have to dig through the forum to find out where the blog is in order to reply to it. Perhaps this is why there aren't many replies to blogs? That "reply" button should at least provide a short-cut to the correct page that would allow us to reply more easily.

I can't reproduce the error - can you tell me precisely how to trigger it?

OK - I think I have found the problem - can you try again?

The permissions were set wrongly. You can't start a new thread in the blog response board as all the threads are created by blog entries, but you should be able to reply to threads and this was disabled for some types of account - sorry about that!

                        That's fixed it

                        Thanks Ian.

Now I've gone and forgotten what I was going to write about in that thread. Don't happen to have a fix for a failing memory, do you...

Re: Now what have I done wrong

                          Seems to work okay now.

The only issue I see is that there's a danger of the discussion being split.

There's already a discussion regarding the blog post itself underneath the blog article at http://dpnow.com/forum2/blog.php?b=367 but now there's also a discussion going on in the thread that points to the blog article here: http://dpnow.com/forum2/showthread.p...4267#post74267

It's seems a bit confusing to be carrying on the same discussion in two different places by different people in separate conversations about the same subject. It would make more sense to have a single discussion/conversation given that the subject is the same and contributors to both discussions might find it rewarding to read posts by others in the other discussion thread.

Can something be done to tidy that up in some way so that everyone posts in the same place?

I tend to type up my post in Notepad first, before copy & pasting it into a post. I've had wayyy too many posts go disappearing into the ether never to be seen again to do it any other way..! It also means I can "save" the Notepad .txt file in the event that I can't post it until later.

Actually that is a really sound bit of advice, on good workflow, for many such writing practices.
