Re: Is this the future
Fundamentally, an iPhone is not a 'great' camera - it's fine as a snap-shooter and as a web-photo camera, but if you need decent quality you will be disappointed.

Re: Is this the future
Considering the resolution constraints of the web and many "Social Media" sites, I did a quick-n-dirty shoot-out between some VERY serious kit and an iPhone.
As both the iPhone images and the Pro Kit images were post processed down to a standard 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480 the end products were "comparable"
Even at the HDTV size (1920x1080) the difference was very close for those images that were optimized towards the iPhone's capabilities.
As these things continue to improve, there are some that may well consider them as a viable alternative to traditional kit.
Last Saturday I was in a studio with some other photographers who displayed somewhat stereotypical views and opinions towards my Olympus E-PL5. Until the Zuiko 7-14 and 14-35 were attached and they saw the incredible quality that it can produce.
Once they work out how to get an iPhone to trigger studio flash, web images may well be better produced with them as the "APP" configures the image automatically for the site on which it will appear.Graham

Re: Is this the future
A smartphone can't do bigger sensor effects like narrow depth of field, low light photography or action photography. Which is why I kind of laugh at all these exotic add-ons (with a few exceptions like the 360 degree panorama mirror lenses, for example) - you might as while get a real camera

Re: Is this the future
Having only just got an iPhone, I am still in that "place" where Learning what it can do, is more interesting than the frustrations of what it's limitations are.
I am completely impressed by the way these 12 year olds can type quicker with two thumbs, than I can with all my fingers on a real kbd.
I'm writing this on it, just as a way of seeing how practical it is, and discovering quickly, that it is harder than the kids make it look...Graham

My mobile comes from times past. In fact I don't think I have fired it up this month, certainly once since the turn of 2013.Originally posted by Graham_of_Rainham View PostHaving only just got an iPhone, I am still in that "place" where Learning what it can do, is more interesting than the frustrations of what it's limitations are.

I have to confess though Anne has the iphone and we used face time to see and speak to the grandchildren on it today.
I love this modern world (head in the cloud - almost) - especially when everything is running on all cylinders.
