    Hi yoshi -

Amazing what your countrymen have done in under a year.

I hope you are well and that your heating has been restored.

Incredible! Can't help wondering where they put all the debris.

Just amazing. Those workers didn't spend anytime leaning on their shovels

Oh, thanks Barr1e for this interesting link. I spent for more than an hour or so in scrutinizing the pics and read the comments.

I find this comment interesting. It is accurate and insightful, imo.

This article tells two stories: (1) all the debris has been cleared away and (2) exactly zero reconstruction has happened to date. The debris has all been piled up on the outskirts of towns, neatly sorted by type: wood, cars, tyres, metal etc. There is too much debris to put into landfills etc. (Ishinomaki, for example, has more debris than would be created in 100 years of normal activity) so, out of sight of your cameras but not hidden from local residents, there are massive debris piles that serve as a daily reminder of the tradgedy. There are also tens of thousands of people still living in temporary housing with no clear indication of when they might have a new home to go to. Clearing up the rubble over an 11 month period isn't really something to boast about - it was actually done much quicker than that but, the key issue, is that no reconstruction has yet happened.

Out of the 47 prefectures, only Tokyo agreed to accept some debris of the three prefectures that were heavily damaged. All others are rejcting to accept it. Nobody wants to accept any debris from Fukushima prefecture. No governmental leadership exists here.

This is the pic of car debris I took in Iwate prefecture in early Nov. More than thousand cars were piled up in this place alone. The embankment on the right is partially damaged but still in good shape here. Beyond the embarnkment is the sea. In other parts it was completely destroyed by the tsunami attack.
The yellow letters on the black car says "please remove this car." So it was removed to this place.

A good chunk of the debris decided not to stay in Japan and headed out for the Oregon coast. This mess is going to be around for decades.

Yeah, I regret that some debris as well as some missing people were brought into the ocean when the tsunami retreated. They will reach Hawaii this year? awfully sorry for that. iirc they will reach the west coast of NA in 3 years.
