  • Relentless spam

Nothing to do with photography, granted, but I just have to get this off my chest!

Every day for the last couple of months I have received around 8-12 spam emails and they are often identical over a period of days, just repeating. They always come from the same organisation, of that I'm sure, but to ensure they get around any anti-spam measures the sender's mail domain is changed frequently, as is the IP address of the sender. It's driving me bonkers!

I can't believe this is a business - who would take such emails seriously?

We get spam registrations here on the forum very regularly although you may not notice them because our our trusty moderators, Pops and Pol, deal with them promptly. Recent measures on the server to resist repeated registrations are also proving to be effective.

I just wish I could apply the same techniques to the senders of the spam email I'm receiving!

    Re: Relentless spam

I use Mailwasher for my all my POP mail accounts. I always check everything via mailwasher before d/l anything into my email client.

I've used Mailwasher for years and anything suspicious is listed as 'unfriendly' so the spam automatically marked in red now.

Give Mailwasher a whirl if you haven't already done so.

I also use BT/Yahoo webmail which has a very effective spam filter, though you have to create your own filters for that one. I've had the a/c for many years too so nothing much finds its way to my inbox, though I think you probably have to be a member to use that facility.

Yep - spammers rarely last very long here in DPN.

And you can get a FREE version HERE. The difference, as far as I recall, is that you can only have one email a/c cofigured in the free version.

          Re: Relentless spam

Hi Pol, I actually have layers of spam filtering on our mail server (which is a smart algorithm-based filter) and in my email client already. The emails are not offensive, just unwanted! As the senders' identities are changed regularly, I doubt any spam filter could keep up. I have googled the details of the emails and they are never flagged by spam sites.

Would you believe that I don't have any mail washer/spam detection progs at all and I have not had 1 single spam mail since leaving the other place.
I use Windows Live Mail as my primary email prog.
