  • F1 - great race in Turkey?

Well, I was hopping around the living room and whooping in response to all the overtaking last Sunday afternoon. The rest of the family think it's very funny (me that is!)

But I felt a bit deflated at the end of the race - not because Vettel won, again - good on him, he's the best and the team are doing the best job at the moment. But with KERS, DRS, and the new Pirelli tyres, it's so difficult to follow a trend in the racing. Even Rosberg complained that it was just all so confusing.

I wonder if we need DRS now because the tyres have such a short life and 'fall off a cliff'. I'm beginning to feel there are too many variables now. I think KERS should stay as it's technology that relates to the evolution of road cars. But I'm getting a bit tired of DRS. I think it does make the overtaking too easy, especially if the guy in front has compromised tyres. In such situations the overtaker needs to earn the pass and at the moment I don't think that's happening.

Any thoughts from fellow F1 fans here?

Yes I agree with the above. I thought it was good in the first few races but after watching Sundays race I am not so sure now. Oh and you are not the only one who jumps around trust me I was doing the same watching Alonso Oh and what do you think of this I for one do not want to see him go but I also do not want to see him as an also ran for the rest of the season

I saw in Autosport that Johnny Herbert thinks Schumacher should retire at the end of the season and that he is still as good as he ever was but that the young talent in F1 is now better than his generation was. I actually disagree with the latter. There are no two ways around it - age gets to you and he is competing with youngsters 20 years younger than him. I doubt his team mate (Nico Rosberg) will ever be better than Schumacher on a like for like basis, but he is younger - much younger. That said, I can see Schumacher on the podium if Mercedes get their act together and the car does seem to have turned a corner performance-wise. The only thing is - if the car becomes a race-winner, will Schumacher be able to beat his team mate. I think he will need luck on his side for that. As for retiring, unless he can really begin to score points and get podiums, like his team mate is doing, I can't see any other option, really.

Well you know what and how I feel about Schumacher so will not go into that again but and there is always a but lol. Love him or hate him but he will go down as one of the greatest drivers of all time and I do not think that anybody soon will come near breaking his records. Ok a few may go sooner then others but I think his record of titles will hold up for a long time. Yes he is fighting a hard battle which none of us can hold back and that is age. The young guns will always have that on their side In that article it says he should use his wits and strengths against them and if he does that then he may well get the upper hand on a fair few of them

Schumacher seems to have answered his critics after the Spanish GP yesterday (although Rosberg reckons he was held up my his team mate).

As I suspected, the DRS thing really didn't work at Barcelona. What has really livened up things this year is the tyres and the consequential strategy decisions. I'm beginning to wonder if we need DRS?

yes it really was not up to much yesterday was it. I am sure they said it may well be used twice at a few tracks this year which may be good but guess we will have to wait and see. Yes tyres really did make a difference but lets hope they do not start just doing one or two runs on the saturday so as to save more for the race .

Oh and Alonso had me jumping off my seat with joy going in to the first corner but it did not last for long Those last few laps with Vettel and Lewis were really good just what we want to see

Yeah I think the atmosphere at your place was rather better than at my place at the start with Jenson around 11th place at the end of the first lap. Watching the replay of the start and seeing how Alonso snuck in there was amazing. I was also very surprised that McLaren were so much closer in the race after being a second slower (even though Vettel had no kers) in qualifying - remarkable. It will be fascinating to see if the tyres can liven up Monaco too this weekend!

Yes I can see how it would be like that in your house But I just had this feeling it would not last for Alonso. The start he made was blinding and I was just hoping he had not jumped it. As for Monaco this weekend I hope it will be better as that is very much just a race for the money side of things.

Monaco will be fun - I don't think the Red Bulls will have the same kind of advantage they had at Barcelona as it's not an aero track. Renault are quite, er, bullish about the race
