  • Campeones del Mundo!

It probably hasn't escaped your attention that there was a football match Sunday evening, won by Spain. I am sure that everyone knows by now that Spain are the world champions for the first time in history. What you may not know is exactly what this means to the Spanish people. The party is still going on ! I was out in town celebrating after the game, as was pretty much everyone else in town. The following link has some video if anyone is interested !

our wee adventure on the Black Isle

Being old and infirm (after that much beer anyway) I retired hurt before dawn. Not many others did !

Yep - I was cheering Spain on. The Dutch play was a disgrace. I'm hearing that some of the Dutch squad are acknowledging this too.

I agree with you Ian, the first half was an utter disgrace to football. The Dutch team were more like gladiators in the arenas of old - stop the Spanish at all costs using whatever tactics even at the expense of an injury to the opposing player. I think the referee was far to lenient with them and I think the incident where one player lept up with his boot right in the chest of the Spanish player warranted an immediate send off even though it was the cup final.

As Ian said the Dutch were a disgrace to themselves and the game, shades of Argentina in 1966. What makes it worse they are capable of much better than that,

I know the ref was lenient but he was attempting not to spoil the final, unfortunately the Dutch sensed it and took advantage.

I was at the beginning of the match hoping for a Dutch win (I have a cousin who lives in Holland so there was a slight connection). I quickly changed sides to the Spanish as the Dutch disgraced themselves.

          Out of interest.

The BBC are claiming viewing figures of over 15 million against ITV's 3 million, don't know the Sky figure.

What channel did you watch it on?

          I watched on BBC

watched it on Telecinco which recorded 15.5m "viewers" which apparently equates to 85% of the TV ausience in Spain and is the highest ficure ever recorded for a broadcast in Spain - not really surprising though !
