    Thoughts everyone?

As everyone knows, I am not a big Shumy fan, however, I believe this penalty is completely unfair!

I honeslty thought, fairplay to him!

It seemed that everyone believed that the rules allowed racing for the final stretch judging by the way they all hoofed it to finish line.

In my opinion, if anyone should have been penalised, it was the person who made the decision to pull the safety car in.

i also am not a schumacher fan, however from my TV derived understanding of the sporting regulations, he did nothing wrong with that final overtake. sure, the rules used to be no overtaking until the start/finish line, but they were changed for this season, so, he played it spot on.
yet again, F1 is made to look incompetent.

ok, have read a bit more about this. it's all down to the change in regs and how they are supposed to be applied. can see both sides of the argument, however if they'd left the "no overtaking until start/finish line" then this would be all academic. as they stand, they leave an element of doubt.
a lot of teams specifically instructed their drivers to NOT overtake as the race was finishing under safety car conditions. the regs state that for this, the SC will come in on the last lap. why not just leave it out there? lame.

"40.13: If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

the problem is that race control declared the track clear and that the SC would return to the pits on lap 78.

the regs also state "As the safety car is approaching the pit entry the yellow flags and SC boards will be withdrawn and replaced by waved green flags with green lights at the Line. These will be displayed until the last car crosses the Line."

according to this reg, the race did finish under SC conditions, so MS should be penalised.

surely if you're going to finish under SC conditions, just keep a full course yellow and not show green flags etc? should be nothing to argue about then.

Yes, the wording is very ambiguous. Ross Brawn showed evidence that the race was no longer under safety car conditions, so I can see why they are appealing penalty.

          as can I!

I think if they do punish shumacher, it should only be one spot, as the rules are so open to interpretation.

Me thinks Damon may have been a little biased?

wasn't damon there as an adviser to the stewards rather than as an acting steward?

anyways, i would think that DH has a little more integrity than that as it would be so easy to jump to conclusions based on history between the 2 drivers.

stewarding is about interpreting the rulebook and applying the relevant penalties should a transgression occur.

they should've just finished the race under full course yellow. a lesson for the future perhaps?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO which way do I go with this. Me being a big Ferrari and a Schumacher fan ? Well the way Ross shows it Schumacher is well in the clear. A lot of people I have spoken to believe the same he caught Alonso napping and good on him. This to me shows the Schumacher of old and may we see loads more. To me the SC should have taken them over the line if that is how they want to play it. Again to me I see it's the fans that are being messed around with the results.
