they say over here that if you are a guy over 50 forget about booking weddings. furthermore, no one uses the traditional yellow pages anymore and that even websites are becoming of less value. okay i started tweeting, connected that to a business facebook page, connected that to a studio blog which as you can guess by now is connected to my website. any of you guys jumping through some of these hoops? any insight here gang?

It seems crazy - someone of that age would normally valued for their experience, surely?

My neighbour is a wedding pro and he has experienced a big down turn in bookings over the last few years. He is a good photographer and his clients are very happy. Oh, and he is around that age too!

it's no joke. today's wedding market is in disarray. it is no longer about reputation or quality of the work. it's about looking hip and cool.

I joined Athena last year, which is a Business Networking Group for women in Business. It is well run with monthly business meetings where you introduce yourself and your business and do a one-minute pitch.

Face-to-face, getting to know people, marketing is still out there. In England there is Business Link, which offers help to businesses. Your local equivalent might be able to help.

since they ratio of "photographers" to general public is so high due to the availability of intelligent hi res cameras and soccer moms who can afford to attend any and all meetings and give away their work, it pointless here. any networking group joining would cost $ and with corporate budgets cut, what's the point.

have lunch with a friend. afterwards when you receive the check, tell the waitress that you are from out of town a could she recommend a good photographer. "the funny that you should ask, i'm a photographer and only work here as a part time job."

Do you mean Adobe Flash? If your site is predominantly Flash, that means the world's 75 million iPhone and iPod Touch users won't be able to see it. Not to mention all those who are going to buy the new iPad.

Are you sure you want to go Flash and exclude all those potential clients?

when you enter my site you are offered a choice of flash or html. it's still a work in progress because i need to repopulate the portfolio with hi res images. customers can view their images with a loupe just like bridge in photoshop. the shopping cart is e-commrce secure and i have the ability personalizing a client's with special pricing and even language.
