    I do have a couple of external hard drives with all my pictures on. Although one is full. It is just that I have quite a large hard drive on the computer and thought I would also have them there as a back up.

    I'll have to sleep on it and decide whether to leave it as is it or download the software and have another go.

      getting back to the scratch disk stuff.... iirc, the idea of the photoshop scratch disk was to increase performance when it needs to write temporary info during editing. putting this onto a partition on the same physical drive as the data will not yield any significant performance gain as the one hard drive & controller is still doing all the work. splitting the scratch disk onto a separate physical drive from your data
