  • Deleting copy images

Hi everyone. I returned from my hols in the Caribbean this morning.

I have downloaded my pics and find that I have downloaded duplicates. (I don't know how this has happened).

Is there a quick way to delete just the copies? I am attaching a screengrab.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Audrey - I think this should work:-
    1) Open the folder that contains the photos. (As you have shown in your thumbnail.
    2) Click on 'view' at the top - then come down to 'Arrange Icons by > Name. This should arrange all your photos together and all your copies togther.

    3) Now select the first copy at the top then holding down the 'Shift' key click on the last 'Copy' photo. This should select and highlight all the copies.
    4) Now click the delete key which should delete the selected copies.

If you want to do a belt and braces job then create a new folder and copy everything to it as a backup in case things go wrong . If you have any more questions before you start then please PM me.
    Regards DennisP

If you select some files and accidentally release the mouse button while dragging the files they can end up pasted as copies into the same folder.

You can sort by name and the copies will be listed separately.

        Hi Audrey,

I have done the same thing many times - talk about annoying.

Thanks Dennis for your advice. I will know what to do next time it happens.

          Re: Deleting copy images

I an nothing if not "Impatient" so I did it all manually!

However, I had looked at the sorting options in Bridge CS3. I selected all and tried every option, but the copies always came straight after the original!

I tried selecting in Explorer and it was still the same. I think I previously used ACDC but since using Vista, I have not installed it.

I know I have successfully deleted copies before by them being listed in a block, but I just could not get all the copies to go into one block this time.

BTW Ian and Dennis, what programs were you using when you selected "Arrange icons by name" and "Sort by Name?" I don't have these options in Explorer or in Bridge.

          Thanks anyway for for help.

I was using Windows Explorer; change the view to 'details' and then click on the header of the file name column to sort by name. Easy!

              Re: Deleting copy images

I have emulated it and it works. Why wouldn't it before?

Probably I had the list view, but it works in that too now, so I don't know. Thanks anyway.
