I've only been using the monitor for a short while, but I'm impressed so far. There are no hot/stuck pixels that I can see and the contrast and clarity look very good. I haven't adjusted the colour yet and I will profile the monitor with an i1 Pro asap. The default colour is a bit over-saturated and luminous!

I have been using a 20" iiyama 1680x1050 panel, but that has now gone to Julia's Mum - and she is very pleased with it, recovering a large area of desk space now that her old Lacie 19" CRT has been re-allocated... to Julia's Dad

Thats what I like to here re-cycle, sounds like you got a bargain too, cheapest 24" Ive found recently was about 250.

I am glad I hung on. I shall be taking the plunge shortly, but there have been one or two other things needing replacing first and mine hasn't quite "Gone" yet.

It sounds really super and I fancied a 24" from the start. Keep us posted.

I have just calibrated the screen and it's a lot better The default brightness and contrast were way too high. The colours are now much less lurid and fluorescent. The i1 calibration software wanted the brightness to go lower than it would go, but the screen's black density is very good, so there are no signs of glowing darkness in images. Most LCD monitor backlights can't be lowered low enough for ideal photography usage. The iiyama that I replaced (an excellent budget monitor too) had the same problem.

The on screen display (OSD) is well thought out, too.

By the way, the panel has a glossy black style of finish, which can pick up reflections easily, but it's the trend in monitors now.

Vertical viewing angle range is very good, and although horizontally the brightness is maintained well at extreme angles, the colour gets progressively warmer off-angle.

I forgot to mention that a VGA cable as well as a DVI cable are included, as is an audio lead. I haven't tried the speakers, but I'm not expecting much.

There is a blue power-on LED below the on/off button and it's too bright, so I will be covering that as soon as I can.

Overall, so far - I'm still very impressed. My trusty iiyama Vision Master Pro 514 22 inch CRT is next to the new LCD, so it will be interesting to compare the two side by side

Ah I think I see where the confusion is - the Dabs Value item is the same as the DigiMate That's what I bought - Dabs categorise it as an own-brand item, but the box and product didn't actually have any Dabs branding on it.

Well I think that is what I did 5 years ago. I have a GNR 19" TFT monitor (which was a Dabs value then). I did a pixel test this morning, (after reading about everyone testing the DigiMate) and there are no dead or stuck pixels on my monitor. So Dabs was OK for me. Roy can have it now I have ordered mine.

BTW, is the Acer 24"Wide the same model in a different case. Some people seem to think it might be?

Back to this thread again.

I got my 24" monitor and am thrilled with it. However, when I look at the refresh rate, it is set to 60 Hertz.

If I uncheck the box I can set it to 75 Hertz, but my monitor wont accept it. I think it says "Out of Range" or something like that.

Can you set your Refresh Rate higher than 60 Hertz Ian, or does it not matter with a 24" screen?

What determines the rate at which the monitor can be refreshed - is it the computer or the monitor?

I could always get a refresh rate of 75 Hertz with my old GNR monitor with Vista.

I don't know the answer to your particular problem, but I remember with the old CRT monitors, the refresh rate seemed to be down to the graphics card installed. However with my laptop its fixed at iirc 60hertz, and I suspect this is the native refresh rate of your setup.

The old adage springs to mind though Audrey, that if it ain't broke, don't try to mend it
