Has anyone personal experience of using Virgin cable broadband is so I would appreciate comments good or bad. I have been having a lot of trouble with my ISP this past week - Pipex with whom I have been for about 3 years, but since they were taken over by Tiscali the service has gone staedily worse.

Re: Virgin cable broadband - views ?
Dennis, I'm on Virgin Media cable BB and have been for years though it was originally Telewest. I have always found cable BB to me more reliable and with less restrictions that ADSL BB using the telephone line. Its an always on service with no logging in. Ove the years I have had very little downtime though in the last two days it has coincidentally gone down for a few hours each day. This is most unusual though and I'm hoping it is only a hiccup in what for me has been a reliable service, and though it may not be the cheapest, there is a lot to be said for the reliability (last 2 days excluded)Originally posted by DennisP View PostHas anyone personal experience of using Virgin cable broadband is so I would appreciate comments good or bad. Re: Virgin cable broadband - views ?
I can second Stephen on that. We have Virgin broadband at the house and it's very fast, though we have had a couple of days where the service was down since the beginning of the year.
One thing to consider is that they will need to run a cable from the road to your house and that may mean digging up the pavement and possibly a small section of your garden, plus drilling through your wall. A terminating box is also fitted on an interior wall.
Which package are you considering?

Yeah, third the sentiment, have been with Virgin, (primarily NTL) and have no problem. Even happier now they have dropped their ridiculous charge for support!Originally posted by DennisP View PostHas anyone personal experience of using Virgin cable broadband is so I would appreciate comments good or bad. Re: Virgin cable broadband - views ?
Depending on the type of BT box you have on your wall, there can be a way determining quite reliably whether or not the problem lies in your house or in the line. You need to find a helpful technical support person who can advise you on what to do. It means removing the cover and connecting your phone lead to a connector inside, if I recall.
ADSL microfilters can sometimes go bad too - you should have one of these already, usually a small white box with a lead that plugs into the wall socket and has ports for your phone and your ADSL modem or modem router.

Re: Virgin cable broadband - views ?
Just another quick
for Virgin (formerly NTL) cable. I have the 20 meg option and it's extremely reliable but not exactly cheap. I just have the cable modem and 2 phone lines now - I converted to Sky HD when it first came out (although the cable TV quality was pretty good and they've obviously gone HD now)
BTW, I'm told 50 meg is just round the corner...Stuart R

Re: Virgin cable broadband - views ?
Paul - I don't know how you manage to get 20meg line speed - you must live next door to the telephone exchange.
!! I have just put my phone number into the check box on O2 website and it came back to say that the best I could expect would be up to 8 megs.

Speeds offered seem at times to mean little, the Sky (ADSL) service I have claims 8mb, but preforms no faster than my 2mb from Virgin (Cable)Originally posted by DennisP View PostPaul - I don't know how you manage to get 20meg line speed - you must live next door to the telephone exchange.
