The first thing that you should do Audrey, is go into your BIOS during the boot, as you have not told us your computer model, or more importantly your mobo model, I can't tell you exactly how to do this but it usually involves hitting the 'delete' key or F2 during the boot procedure but before the OS boots. I know it sounds dangerous, but nothing will be harmed or altered until you change something in the BIOS.
When the BIOS screen appears all the instructions will be on the screen to enable you to proceed - Don't worry!
Scroll through the various windows, I think that you will have one called 'Power' and on this screen you will find something like 'Restore (or Reboot)after AC power loss' and you should disable this to prevent the machine restarting automatically, all the warnings and info will then remain on the blue screen after a BSOD. This is essential for the fault finding process.
Have you checked your Hardware Device Manager for yellow exclamation marks?
Another good step towards finding the problem is the Event Viewer. To see this, go to the 'Run' box, type "eventvwr.msc" (Without the quotation marks) and hit 'OK'. When the event viewer opens you can expand the various columns ie System, Applications, etc, and any problems should be reported there with an ID code.

Let us know how you get on. Be adventurous!

    Hi Roger

ATTM the BBS has not returned since I uninstalled the new mouse drivers. However, I haven't been doing a lot of PS work since, so it is early days. I will therefore wait to see what happens before I do anything drastic because I am not at all technical.

I did however check the Hardware Device Manager and there were no yellow exclamation marks.

I then decided to Run eventvwr.msc, but couldn't. Guess Why? No Run Command Box in the Start menu.

I have Googled and seen that there are suggestions as to how I might retrieve it, but thought I would post my problem here instead, as we have many very experienced people on this board. So, Roger, George, Anyone? how do I retrieve my Run Command Box please?

      Audrey,

      Right click on the taskbar.
Select "Properties", then select the "Start Menu" tab, then select "Customize" and click on the "Display Run"

            Hi Audrey
Hope you have managed to solve your problem by now but one of the things that has not been mentioned is to use the XP "system restore" using a point before the problem started. This has always been helpful to me especially when after an install that I decide I don't want will not uninstall properly.
I use CCleaner and System mechanic to keep my system in order without (as far as I know) any detrimental effects.

            Regards
            Martin

              Re: Big Blue Screen!

I also experienced the big blue screen and eventually was unable to start Windows.
I resolved the problem by using the factory reset disc but obviously lost all my data.
I would advise you to back up everything on your computer now in case it happens top you.

After reading through all of these messages it is obvious that technical help is being given.
For what it's worth Autumn I have been using ccleaner for ages and ages without any bother whatsoever.
Also maybe your error code can be found on this page if you haven't already got it sorted.

Thanks Pops, but it is sorted now.
