This is just for info in case anybody else has or had this problem.
I finally solved a problem with the help of Epson tech support. For several years I have had 2 HP scanners (flatbed and film)connected to USB ports on my computer with no obvious problems using either one. Two weeks ago my flatbed would not communicate with the computer sudden like. I tried everything I knew, removing and installing drivers and such. So I bought an Epson scanner and it hiccupped a little but then worked. This week it wouldn't. The end result was the revelation that Windows doesn't like 2 scanners connected at once. I think I had an automatic windows update that worsened the problem. I went back and my old HP scanner works just fine. I lost alot of hair before I got this resolved though.
