  • Outlook Express and junk e mails

I have recently moved to using OE as my E mail client and have being trying to get to grips with the "Creating rules from the Message". I do understand it, but there are certain junk e mails as the one attached whereby I am unable to pick out a word and the e mail is deleted, because the text is not copiable.

I don't know what type of text you would call it, but it has obviously been used to make it difficult for the likes of me to get rid of it.

It comes from a different e mail address every time.

Some of the other junk mail I have been able to filter and put in the delete box at source.

The attached one also has random excerpts at the end - perhaps this is so they can post it. I did wonder that if this random text weren't on, if it would appear not to have a message and therefore could not be posted.

As you can see the text is sort of pixelised.

I am sick of receiving these - I have had 15 since yesterday and my genuine e mails are getting lost within them.

Can anyone suggest anything I could do to prevent them.

I had about 3 months of this type of email and like you say no way to stop them. I started bouncing them back and after a while they seem to have stopped. Well for the moment anyway, probably start again now I've posted this.

If you want to learn about this sort of thing, there is a newsletter called "email essentials" which is not too techie. If you want the address let me know.
One thing that you are advised NOT to do is open or reply to these emails. If you reply, you are letting them know you are there and you WILL find yourself targeted.
Which software firewall are you using, Audrey?
I use one that puts an "anti-spam" folder in my inbox, and puts any suspicious emails in there.
I then flip through that once a day and delete the whole lot. (After picking out the occasional one that I want to keep.)

I've used Mailwasher Pro for years and that allows me to check all mail on the servers of all my accounts - so I can filter out spam at source. I think it's free if you only want to use it for the one email a/c. (I have 3-4 so I need the Pro version)

Also - I'm with btinternet and they provide very good spam filters which the user trains for themselves - so spam doesn't stand a chance of getting anywhere near my computer.

        here's the link.

I am using AVG. I have managed to get some of the emails with the word "Viagra" in deleted, because it is normal text, but the one I attached, is not
proper text. It's like trying to copy and paste a ghost - it can't be done.

Yes please Jim I would like to see the newsletter e mail essentials.

I have been bouncing them, but some of them can't be bounced and come back to me.

I have tried several different free spam filters, the one I use now and have done for a while is http://www.spamihilator.com/ it's easy to use and you can change the settings to change the strength of the filter, it learns each time you use it and you can tell it what is spam and what's not, much better than using rules, I tried that and it was very hit and miss.

When I first used the filter it was ok but through time it has learned from my e-mails and is now very good.
