  • Photo properties/ Exif

    Good morning, all.
I often read in forums that a poster has looked at another's photograph's exif and can see that the picture was taken at... on and on.
Now. Sometimes I can right click (PC) on a pic, look at properties and get *some* info.
Other times I have to save the pic to my pc then look at the exif with ACDSee.
With either method what I can see doesn't necessarily agree with the author's description of the pic.
Is there a more fool-proof (or less foolish) way of looking at exif?
Look at George's (http://dpnow.com/forum2/showthread.p...3690#post13690) macro shots, and the only info I can get from them is that they are obviously downsized for the forum!
    Thanks
    Jim

    Jim,

I left the EXIF on the photos. Though they are linked from a different website to DPNow and that may be the problem that you have observed.
Try to see some of my latest photos in my gallery in which I left the EXIF. I think that would be fine. For example try to see the last photo on my gallery with the butterfly...the EXIF is attached and you will notice that it is not a macro, but a zoom shot.

I will check back later as I must participate in a meeting at job and take some company colleagues from Germany out to lunch...well late supper with our time here.

    George

      Hmmm... That's worse!
When I view any image in the gallery, i do not have the option of right clicking.
Even the macro images, on which I could right click in your original post, when I view them from your gallery they acquire the pointed hand as a cursor, rather than the arrow, then all i can do is left click and just cycle through the sizes.

Jim there is an option to view the Exif Data in the Galleries. However let me let you into a secret
If you use Flock as your browser, you can actually view very easy all the photos in Georges Photobucket gallery.

There is a direct connection with Photobucket and/or Flickr. Not only can you see your own photos on these sites but also the ones of others who have kept their galleries public.

On the thread you referred to there is a small icon appears at the side of the photos, when you click on it the photostream where the photos are hosted is shown to you along the top of the browser. Pretty cool I think. Don't tell George I told you though

I forgot to mention also that all the Exif Data is visible on Photobucket, unless its been stripped out prior to uploading

            Hi Jim,

There is an exif info option in the gallery itself, but this will not be be visible if the image has no exif metadata. You need to click on the show exif info option to reveal the data below.

Images copied to categories don't automatically contain exif data either, but it can be restored and I run a restore scan periodically to do this.

The right click option is disabled in the gallery to prevent casual image theft.

              Re: Photo properties/ Exif

Hello Ian, Stephen, and thanks for helping out.
Ian: Got that, the exif *was* there, even the macro shots that George had linked to from a different site. Now: how do I see exif on the sites where they don't have that convenient button? (Incidentally, is there an option to lock that button on? I hope I don't turn into a pixel gazer, I always look at the photo first, but 'tis fascinating how some shots are taken, and always you want the exif if there is something awry with the shot.)

Stephen. You mentioned Flock in another post. I have just been using a *lot* of Flock over the last twenty minutes as I had to reboot Firefox, (wouldn't), so reboot PC again, because FF keeps; freezing/ not responding/ shutting down on me. Which is a lot better than IE7 which just spontaneously would either re-boot the pc or give me a screen in a rather delightful shade of blue, often called the BSOD, which *also* has something to do with Flock, I think.

I don't wish to tempt the Lady Fate, but I rather suspect that I have a re-install ahead of me. Oh joy!

Anyway, I've decided to buy a Mac. either Powerbook Pro or the desktop Pro thingy. Except that Mac are now talking about using a *QUAD* core Intel chip. TWO of them! So either the Duo core will slump in price (I hope), or the Quad core will become the "must-have".

Right, of to find Flock, if my PC stays up long enough.
              Thanks
              Jim

                Hi Stephen.
I've installed Flock browser, I'm trying to get my Favourites in order. Do I have to go through the whole lot rebuilding the folders one by one, do you know, or is there a way of nesting existing folders?
                THanks

Hi Jim, as I recall I was prompted to import favourites which it did along with all the other stuff like cookies etc. As for nested folders, I can't comment as I don't have any. However the actual folders will surely have been imported and it should be a simple enough job to then put them in the order you want.

When you are sorted, check out the web search facility which is also very customisable. Also the RSS feed function, can be very useful. It will of course use most of the FF plugins and add ons. The save to favourites facility in the url window is also quite slick.

If you have a Photobucket account, you can upload from the browser as well as use the tags for posting in forums etc. I'm telling you this is a great browser IMHO

                    Re: Photo properties/ Exif

Well, I can't see how to organise the folders. When I say nested, I had, in Favourites, a folder called computer and another called Photography.
Inside each were sub-folders named "magazines", "Forum", "Shopping" and so on. Then inside each of those were my links to my favourite relevant sites.
Flock asked me if I wanted to import favourites from Firefox, which I OKayed. So most of my favourites have been imported. However, it "un-nested" the folders, and only imported the first occurrence of "Magazines", for example, and so on throughout.
Never mind, I still have them in Firefox and IE7, so may be able to delve behind the scenes and see if I can move a file or two in Explorer.
I certainly do like it's media handling, I have a Flickr account and this might persuade me to start putting some stuff online. Which I should do anyway, but I am that well known lazy s_d and anyway, I STILL DON'T HAVE MY CAMERA BACK
