  • How to install USB 3.0 on a computer

Can anyone suggest how to get USB 3 on a computer that has only USB 2 ports at the moment. ? Are there any USB 3 attachments either internal or external on the market which could be fitted.?

Assuming it is for a desktop PC you can get USB 3 PCI or PCI Express cards with 2 or 4 USB connectors from Amazon and other suppliers. Choice will depend whether your PC motherboard is PCI or PCI Express. Note that with PCI the maximum USB 3 speed may not be achieved.

Many thanks "Menace" for reply. I felt sure there must be something on the market that suitable. I will now have to check my tower computer's motherboard to see if it has PCI or PCI express slots. I assume that the type of attachment card PCI has to match the motherboard slots.?

Yes, I would question whether it's worthwhile to install USB3 on a PCI slot.

USB3 devices are backwards compatible with USB2 ports - what is the reason for needing USB3. Dennis?

Ian - The reason is I have pre-ordered the New Pentax K3 body in P-exchange for my K30 body and the K3 has USB3 which is faster to transfer. If you look at my post to Graham of RainHam on the 4third forum you will see that I have found out that I have USB 3 capability on my main computer motherboard.

OK, Dennis - USB ports are normally identified by having blue instead of white or black parts inside the port socket.
